Hello,
I am new to tiling and wish to fix 300mm*600mm*9mm heavy porcelain tiles onto my bathroom walls and floor. They weigh 20kg/sqm exc adhesive. The walls are cement render and the floor will be no more ply.
I have Mapei Keraflex maxi adhesive and BAL prime APD.

1. Should I prime the walls with the BAL APD or do I need to buy the Mapei primer?
2. How thick should the adhesive layer be once the tile is stuck down?
3. What is the best trowel to acheive this e.g. 5mm notched?
4. Do I need to spread any adhesive on the tile as well as the walls?

Thanks

1.I would use the same primer as the adhesive you use
2.Keraflex Maxi will go up to 15mm if needed, this will depend on the trowel you use.
3. Youl want a 10mm half moon trowel for the floor and Id prob use a 8mm square notched on the walls but this will depend on the state of the walls.
4. On the floor, spread your adhesive onto the No More Ply using the notched side of your trowel and then turn the trowel over and skim the back of the tile with the flat edge and push the tiles down into the adhesive with a slight twisting movement. This should give you 100% coverage of adhesive under the tile. I also do this in wet area walls (around the bath/shower).

same as Dylante from me:thumbsup:, although technically speaking sand/cement render walls don't need priming, I do prime them to seal any dust:thumbsup:

I used a 10mm half moon trowel on the walls with these tiles last week due to the fact the walls were out but usually as above 8mm
