Greetings

Hi to all, been fitting kitchens and bathrooms for a an eternity and found this forum whilst trying to decide on my next manual tile cutter. Had a Rubi for years but thought I would try either a Montolit or Sigma, it looks as if it all down to personal preference but I am leaning towards a Montolit. Any thoughts would be welcome as i`m off in search of a local supplier to give them a road test.

Hi Rasp

If you are used to Rubi and pushing to scribe then you should be good with either a Monti or Sigma max range. A popular model for the sigma is the 3C3M which can cut up to lengths of 720, you can also change the handle to push to the measuring bar if its more what you are comfortable with. It will be down to preference but either brands will do the job well. N&C bathrooms stock Montolit if you have one close and Topps/CTD stock Sigma

Thanks for the reply, I have been doing quite a lot of 200 x100 metro tiles in kitchens lately and found that the Rubi was not quite up to cutting close to the edge and have had to resort to wet cutting them. In your experience will either the Monti or the Sigma be able to do the business?

If you are mostly cutting smaller tiles then i probably wouldn't recommend a 720 cutter then, it's all about having a happy medium to cover what you will work with regularly. When i had to use the bigger cutter for metros it does my nut in. You will always struggle cutting close to the edge on bevelled metros, for the best advice on these i'll hand you over to @Andy Allen 😀

Welcome to the forum, have you got your new cutter?

Hi,
Yes I did thanks, I bought a Sigma 3B4M MAX, at 65 years of age i`m done with cutting anything larger than a 600 tile i`ll leave that to the younger members of our trade.
I also bought a Briccolina for cutting the metros both courtesy of Pro Tiler Tools
