Been to price up a job this morning which is an old patio area. They are fed up of the concrete slab and have chosen a 300x300mm porcelain tile...but there is a cast concrete inspection chamber cover in the middle of it.

What is the best method of tiling over this so that the cover can still be removed? Is there a pre made tray or the like that I can set into the main field and then tile in?

I dont want to lay anything too thick on top as the cover is level with the surrounding concrete, so I dont want to have to build up the area around it.

Hope this makes sense

You need a patio inspection chamber. They are about 50mm deep, which you are obviously going to have to fill to within 10mm or so, to allow thickness of tile.

As the original one is cast........you will have to remove this and old frame and set in the new frame for the new cover first.

I got mine from Jewsons........ok, it was for slabs in the garden..........but you can get shallow-er types.
