The morning from hell, Ive been working on a project since last October, and this morning the architect informed me that I was the weak link! as I couldnt give him what he wanted (story of my life!).

This is a grown man who wanted a black bathroom, who has been given samples of Basalt, Slate, Pietra Serena, nero assoluto, in fact every flipping black material that I know of, at the last count he's had 19 samples for this one room and doesnt like none of it! This is a man who thought for another room he would use Thassos marble and wanted it supplied and fixed for around £120.00m2..Give me a break. This is a man who has had 15 samples of cream limestone and still hasnt decided what he wants, and now the client has gone nuts, because surprise there is not one piece of stone or marble on site. And its all my fault because I am the weak link.

Yet again, I am to blame because it is 'me' who is holding the job up, it is me who changes her mind every 5 minutes about substrate preparation, it does not matter it is me that works till 10pm on doing their budgets and specifications and I am the weak link, and I should be thankful for all the work that I get from them, because there are other stone companies.

If it were better times, I would tell them to stick the contract where the sun doesn't shine, but I have to take it on the chin. I never knew i had so much patience in me, I wanted to wrap my fingers round his scrawny neck and bury him in slc, but I was a good girly......(boring).

Here ends this rant....Have a good weekend lads and lasses..because it all kicks of again on Monday morning.

From the quiz show of the same name, its often the other contestants that manage to stay around longer who have been the 'weakest link' and those voted off for tactical reasons leave with the knowledge that the world is full of 'Architects/designers'
We were invited to tile an 'Architects' own bathroom a few years ago and it had been built with every measurement for full tiles:lol: - apart from the missing 2mm joints:mad2:

The joys of the job Lynn:mad2: have a drink and chill, as you say it all starts again mon.

Your not having much fun lately Lynn, as you say, lean times, take it in your stride, be diplomatic, as I know you are / can be, finish the job and the kill the low life.....................................slowly

Have a chill out weekend, a few slurps and what ever else floats ya boat, forget it for 2 days and have a fresh start Monday.

Heyyy Pebbs ... live's a ***** and then you die.... kidding! 🙂 Let it all out, it'll come good, ... ***

Here we go the madness continues...just opened my email, this is the raging argument about how to build up a 10mm void, I propose we slc, but now tightwad has the following suggestion which will save millions! or so he thinks! If I wasnt on the wagon, it would drive me to drink....its ok Gisele I wont.

Lynn,

Why cant we just do a couple of layers of latex!

That would be miles cheaper,
I think its an ardex product should only be £5-7 per3-5 mm layer

It's the same all over lately, you're in the hot seat though Lynn!
Today I emailed a price for a nice big marble job, i'v specified the works including ditra etc.
I'm looking forward to the reply.
Could be fun but big job or not I know what's needed Inc my rates!
It's the weekend Lynn, time for fun I say.
Rip him to pieces on Monday!

He called me a Stroppy Irish *****......umm perhaps hes right I can take that but not the 'weak link' bit that was one step to far!

You should have punched his lights out for that. I can take all the constructive criticism going, but when it gets personal, you have to do something about it......

Are these meetings minuted? If so I'm sure the negatives pointed at you are recorded. I hope the name calling is too.....really unprofessional. Next time you send samples get Big Dave to deliver them

architects know everything same as QS's,they have read loads of books and been to uni, they are much better than you, have you not got it yet ,tut tut tut:smilewinkgrin:

(don't even get me started on QS's,:32🙂

Pebbs, if it makes you feel any better (I know it won't), they are the same sort over here. Your architect sounds like a real pinhead.

He's out of order, I wouldve hit the roof. Would he have said the same if you were a bloke?!

if he'd said "stroppy irish *****" to my m.i.l he would have been picking himself up off the floor and taking his car in for some body repair, respray and windows...and that's no b**&%$£t..mind you she is not a nice person..

Pebbs, this thread makes me wish I could remember the exact phrasing of the old joke I heard long ago...the one about burying all the lawyers in the ocean, because it would make good base material for all the _____________ architects......

Lynn the hell with it woman, tell this guy to get his head out of his backside you need to tell him how it is!

There is only so much things you can put up with before you need to put someone in their place. Sit him down and tell him he is behaving like a brat and tell him what you want him to do to help move forward and get things rolling! Tell him that you will decide on what materials you will be using to prep substrate and fix tiles with, after all it will be you that needs to gaurentee the work.

let me guess hes on an hourly rate and your not sounds so much like our interior decorators we have down here

hes a full blown jerk tell him to do the leg work (find his own tile samples)
