Been tiling a new Aldi this week, got there, unloaded my gear and got a big smile off the other lads. "whats that for?" one said pointing at my TX700n "what do you think? cutting the tiles" "o right" 🙂 Later on cutter is set up, grab a tile to cut, scribe and break, break, break Uhhhh? NO BREAK, (all the lads staring at me). Totally no way of snapping the buggers, never seen such a tough Porcelain. You can pull all you want but those buggers aint budging. The new angle grinder i bought last week now looks 10 years old.

what tile was it..?..

i Have blitzed grade 5 porcelanato with my tx700n......600x600.......aldi are all 200x200's...? but there are some tough gits out there..

That's the beauty of being able to use a hammer to "shock" the tiles............just like you can with the monty......

Gone to 300 x 300 now Aldi, bloody thick buggers, not a prayer of snapping them.

One of the other lads has a Sigma but says it wont touch them, they are 18mm depth.

Couldn't afford to chance giving them a scribe and a good knock on the back cause they just won't break cleanly.

WOW!! 18mm no wonder your having probs a wet cutter maybe your best bet even a sigma would bork at that.

18mm Porcelain:huh2::huh2::huh2: They must weigh at least 8KG+ each!!!

Where are they from? Is there any info on the box?

Kev

Am I being thick?

Are you tiling Aldi stores with these tiles?

Or are you buying them from Aldi?

Ouch sounds like a tough nut to crack and i love my rubi, i think it's time to use a wet cutter

How do you get in with someone like Aldi? And what sort of rates do you charge? We have a Lidle being built near us just wondering if it was worth seeing someone.

I am doing it through a large tiling contractor i am working for, £18 sqm. 2 major companies have the majority of the superstore contracts, the one i am with (not telling you, not having more competion for work 🙂 ) and a company called Tri ( Tri Contracting Services ) Loads of work at the moment, especially working on the likes of Aldi as they are trying to open a store every single week. Give them a ring mate, worth a try.
