FLOORING SAW...These tend not to be found in the tool kit of most DIY people as it is somewhat of a specialist saw being used only to cut across floorboards so that they can be lifted. The edge is curved, enabling a cut to be made across a board at the centre of a joist. When the blade has penetrated, the straight part comes into use, the end of the saw being narrow enough to enable it to enter a short cut.

FLAME GUN.. is the most effective form of organic weed control available! This flame gun destroys weeds with a searing 2000 degrees Fahrenheit blast which when directed at the base of weeds stops the plants sap rising. Leaving the weeds to dry for a few days, a second gunning incinerates all top growth and weed seeds, leaving a potash rich residue. The Flame Gun not only destroys weeds but leaves the ground pure, sweet and free from seeds and harmful bacteria - perfect for future planting. Also useful for mealting snow and ice from drives and pathways during Winter months.

Ideal for pointing slate.

GLUE-GUN... Typically classified as low-temperature or high-temperature. Low-temperature glue guns usually heat up to about 250º [DLMURL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrenheit"]F[/DLMURL] (120º C), and are well suited for delicate work such as lace, cloth, or children's crafts. High-temperature guns generally heat up to around 380º f (195º c) and are used for heavy duty projects. Dual guns have a switch and are capable of operating in either temperature range.
Sticks come in several diameters, and usually a single gun can handle two (similar) sizes. The most popular stick sizes are 10 centimeters in length with a diameter of 11 millimeter, or roughly 0.45 inches. This is the only size commonly sold in British do it yourself stores, while on the continent a 7 millimeter caliber is on sale.
Due to the heating differences, high-temperature and low-temperature guns may use different glue sticks, but many sticks specify dual usage.
There are many advantages to using hot glue, such as the its ability to fill gaps. However, hot glue also has its disadvantages. As the glue cools, it becomes harder to manipulate, so one has to work in short margins of time. It is difficult to spread without tools, as it cannot be touched with hands when hot, and when it is cold it is impossible to spread. For larger areas, spreading the glue using a glue gun and then melting it all at once with a heat gun, for example, may be an option.
Another common use of hot glue is on disposable diaper construction where it is used to bond together the nonwoven material with the backsheet and the elastics.

H

HAMMER DRILL...The hammering action provides a short, rapid hammer thrust to pulverize relatively brittle material and provide quicker drilling with less effort. Lower power units are usually titled as "hammer drills." Higher power units, usually labeled "rotary hammers," tend to be larger and provide bigger impact forces. Modern units allow the hammer and rotation functions to be used separately or in combination, i.e., hammer mode, drill mode, or both. When used in the hammer mode, the tool provides a drilling function similar to a jackhammer..

Re: Hand tools .... A to Z..........

HACKSAW...Small hand-held hacksaws consist of a metal arch with a handle, that fits around a narrow, rigid blade. The blade has many small saw teeth along one side. The blade can either be attached such that the teeth face away from the handle, resulting in sawing action by pushing, or be attached such that the teeth face toward the handle, resulting in sawing action by pulling. On the push stroke, the arch will bend a little, releasing the tension on the blade.

HAWK.... is a plasterer's tool. It consists of a board about 25 cm (9 inches) square with a perpendicular handle fixed centrally on the reverse. It holds the mixed working plaster and is held horizontally in the craftsman's non-dominant hand while the dominant hand uses a float to apply the wet plaster to the wall and produce a smooth finish.
- Quote - Shakespeare Hamlet,II,ii (1600), Hamlet says: 'I am but mad north-north-west: when the wind is southerly I know a hawk from a handsaw'. That is 'I know one thing from another'.
