timber
Lumber, also known as timber, is wood that has been processed into beams and planks, a stage in the process of wood production. Lumber is mainly used for structural purposes but has many other uses as well.
Lumber may be supplied either rough-sawn, or surfaced on one or more of its faces. Besides pulpwood, rough lumber is the raw material for furniture-making, and manufacture of other items requiring cutting and shaping. It is available in many species, including hardwoods and softwoods, such as white pine and red pine, because of their low cost.Finished lumber is supplied in standard sizes, mostly for the construction industry – primarily softwood, from coniferous species, including pine, fir and spruce (collectively spruce-pine-fir), cedar, and hemlock, but also some hardwood, for high-grade flooring. It is more commonly made from softwood than hardwoods, and 80% of lumber comes from softwood.
I am new to the forum so please forgive me if I don't get it right. We are carrying out work on a property and have a situation where the floor to be tiled is half screed and half timber. The client wants underfloor heating (electric). My concern is that the timber floor will move and the screed...

I did a job recently where I plyed out with 12mm marine ply then tiled. Customer has had a second opinion from a firm which they suggest I should have installed ditra matting they reckon the floor will crack over time. Is this correct? Tiles are porcelain. Any advise appreciated.

Hello (1st post!)
I'm in the process of redoing my bathroom, and decided I'd like to have a tiled bath panel. The problem is - there is already a 2x2 timber frame there, which leaves less than 1cm between it and the edge of the bath. Previously there was a thin sheet of mdf as a bath panel.

I have been asked to price for a job which is half concrete floor and half timber.

Hi,
I've been hearing and reading mixed views on the wattage of UFH to use on my bathroom floor, (joists + 22mm floor boards)
I thought 100w/m2 was max for this, but i've been told 150 or even 200w/m2 can be done, which will also heat the room nicely.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Wilfredo
