How do I chose the right size for a shower former?

I'm looking for some advice on chosing the correct size for a shower former. I see Marmox has 10+ sizes. Why are there so many sizes to chose from and how do you know which one is most appropriate?

Any help would be great.

Measure the hole you want to put one in, then get a former that size. There are lots of different sized holes, that's why there are so many different sized formers

Thanks Bri. I don't understand why would I cut out 1850x900 when I can just cut out 1000x1000?

I'm not sure what you mean, just get a former that is the size of the area that you want to turn into a showering area, or as close as possible and a small amount of trimming might be required.

Bri If I have to cut the floor anyway, wouldn't it be easiest to buy the smallest size tray cut the floor to that, then proceed to lay the rest of the floor with the other waterproofed boards? I'm trying to understand why there would be multiple sizes, if people have to cut open the floor to size in the first place.

It all depends on how big you want your showering area, bear in mind that some people have glass screens fitted so will have a tray that suits where this may be positioned, other people may not have any screen so will have a bigger tray so that the water from the showering area doesn't go into the rest of the room.

Different sizes to suit different size rooms and shower area as Bri states. You can't cut down a 1800x1200 former to suit a 800x600 space due to the gradient (preformed) on the former. Each former has a maximum trim down amount

I think the suggestion was to fit a small shower former and, since it's waterproof, use Marmox sheets to complete the shower floor.

I think that there are some wet room flooring systems where the former just holds the drain and the slope is formed from cement or tapered boards. Might make sense if you have a full on wet room where the whole floor slopes rather than what amounts to a shower with a flush floor.
