If you get a call from cold callers and you want to warn others about the name of their company then list them here!

Checkout the other cold callers list at the tile network.

First one

CUSTOMER STREET - claim they can get you business and charge a shed load for it! Don't sign-up! Checkout some of the forum members' comments about Customer Street.

PLEASE REGISTER YOUR PHONE NUMBER WITH TPS, YOUR FAX NUMBER WITH FPS AND YOUR ADDRESS WITH MPS!

And then when you get a phone call - tell them you're with TPS. They can face a heavy fine for calling you if you're registred with TPS.

When I said so I'd be paying to be on a register they said "we're not a register", go figure ?

Look Local

Any of these franchised booklet schemes that apparantly target communities and towns.

Utter Crap.

I actually found rated tradesmen to be very good when I was just starting out. Maybe I was lucky with the area I was in but there was plenty of work and not many people responding to do the estimates.

I had a free trial with them and I certainly made alot more than I shelled out. I don't use them anymore and I accept that I may have just got lucky

McMillan-Scott Publishing trading as something or other... posing as publishers for local councils' planning booklets (those things you get through when you apply for planning permission) trying to push ads "only you in your area".

business internet directory
Be very careful how you speak/contact these people, any sort of communication results in an invoice arriving for services - followed by all sorts of legal threats for non-payment. If contacted by them, usually with a letter asking to "verify" the details they already have, throw it in the bin and completely ignore any further communication.

I have had dealings with them before. I contacted trading standards but unfortunately there is no legislation in this country to control business to business "marketing" of this nature.

I'm opening this thread again - please add cold callers names to the list. And please don't sign up when promised things from such people.

These are the latest ones.....

1.. directory for the police force.....

2. directory for the ambulance service...

3. directory for doctors and nurses...

4. directory for schools...

all are cold calling scams...DO NOT GIVE THEN TIME OF DAY......

I am being called by Thompson...what do you guys think, is it worth £450.00?

touch local toss*** even send a rep out with a lap top to where i was working with an old web page with a TOP SLOT ON GOOGLE and only for £400 a year and guaranteed calls every month what a croc a ****e:furious3:

Don't bother with thomsonlocal

i tried them last year as they weren't as pushy as yellow pages and bt got one confirmed call using thomson for someone wanting a 55 metre floor and was visibly shocked on what i thought was good price considering the floor needed to plied throughout. He said (blagging i think) i've had someone quote me £300 to lay that floor to that i replied i'd be spending that on materials and i don't work for free!

so don't bother your wasting your money. think about it when choosing a directory to find a service which book would you pick up first ?

do these sites really work ? i've had so many people attempting to scam me i'm now wary of anything.

the latest calls i've been getting are about drug awareness and alcohol awareness. you say to these people after they've been rabbitting on about for ages about it why are you calling me and it turns out they are trying to sell advertising space i said to one of them you're trying to scam em aren't you and they put the phone down on me ! rude or what that's what i do to them soecially when they have a weird phone number

Hey everyone, thankyou for all the usefull posts... just wanted to add two of my own regarding the cold callers... first one being a company called EMS internet, basically a rival to that of Customer Street and the other being a cancer charity called chustnut house, they wanted £485.00 for a small 3inch square add on there desk planner/calander.. it sounded like a good idea until no one in the entire company could tell me how many they sold last year...? i wander why????

This week i have had three seperate calls from Customer Street, lucky me...

I had exactly the same, £300 yearly subscription then £60 a month! cheeky gits!:furious3:

boys most of the calls start with "hello is that east tiling and decorating services" (or what ever your firm is called).

now you just ask back in a firm ultimatious tone, "DO YOU WANT TILING DONE?" they will reply no, then you butt straight back in with "does your phone your using do this?" and put the phone down leaving them with a doooooooooooooooooooooooooo to really hit home to them what pathetic ****wits they really are.

works a charm for me, plus a get a kick out of wasting as much of their time as they have mine. try it you might like it.

I was contacted today by someone from Customer Street, they also go under the name UfindUs, SmileLocal and More UK. I was quoted £300 which dropped to £200 Plus £30 per month. I rembered this Post and told them NO NO NO. I doubt if this will be last I will hear from them

ratedpeople.co.uk ??

have seen the website and am not sure if it is worth doing?

am happy to pay to get quotes, but are they genuine quotes and do you know how many people they let quote on each job?

has anyone had any experience with them good or bad??

Re: ratedpeople.co.uk ??

I've just registered with them this week as they were advertising on the local radio, good publicity I thought.

Anyway, it's normally £40 a quarter, but you get the first quarter free. They gave me one referral free so I waited until a suitable job came up. Last night I said I would quote on a job, the customer wanted 3 quotes, I rang them this morning and left a message. To date I've had no reply. Will ring again tomorrow.

I've just got another job that's fairly local, price between £500 and £100, cost to qote it is £9 plus vat. Again they want 3 quotes. I've not commited to quote yet.

I've no idea how many tilers ask to quote and then pay but get no reply. I assume the customer wants 3 quotes and when 3 tilers take up teh quotes the jobs must be taken off line. I'm going to wait until I hear from the first job before I commit to another quote.

Probably because they're one of the firms we hear about so much.

Dan,

I've read through this thread and only one person mentioned rated.com Are you saying they have a bad reputation? I've not paid out any money yet so I'd like to know if they are worth it or not.

Thanks

I may be getting my wires crossed then mate. Though I'm pretty sure that most of those websites don't seem to work. And they do tend to promise more than what they can provide. Though if the system is setup so you only pay for the work you get then you should be laughing. If do try it out and get work and it is all good then please let us know about it because we're yet to hear about a good one that you pay for.

There appears to be genuine work on the website, they post jobs that customers want doing then you say if you want to quote or not. You then have to pay between £5 and £25 to get the customers information. Like I said before, I've got one free referral, when the customer returns my calls then I will ask her how many tilers have actually rung her. She's asked for 3 quotes.

I'll let you know how I get on.

don't know if it will help, as have not registered with them yet myself. But I have heard of a service from tps, check out http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
I hate answering the phone these days due to all these dodgy calls, some even saying I've said in the past I'd contribute to them in some form.
I might start getting nasty!!

I tend to be immune from this type of stuff as my wife usually answers the phone and any unsolicited callers get short shrift. I know you can register your home number so that legit companies don't cold call, don't know if it works for business numbers though.

Also I never respond to calls to my mobile if my phonebook doesn't recognise them or they don't leave a message.
