Hugo.....steer well clear of the BAL black grout.....lots of probs with shading on that grout...and that is straight from a bal employee.....

Try the Mapei one...

Dave

Many thanks for that. I'll see if CTD do it.

Hugo

So you tried to modify a modified grout:huh2::lol::lol:

Kev

Microcolour Kev, not microflex, onto a timber floor

You can stop laughing lads......:huh2:...

You do actually add GT1 to micro colour grout for timber floors and ufh etc........now if it was micro-flex then fair enough....

Micro colour is suitable for porcelain but needs GT1 for other applications.......

So in fact Oli did right...just must have over done the GT1 bit...

Cheers Dave

I think the problem he had Dave was that he didn't premix the GT1 with water. he added it neat to the grout and then "topped up" with water. I think that was the mistake he was referring to.

Spot on grumps

I know russ........i was just pointing out to the P takers that micro colour can be modified.....

Are you generalising here Chris? Check out my album, I have a black granite floor in there, with black grout, cleaned with a washboy and I had no problems. I used Mapei Black grout.
yes grumps, it tends to be ultra anthracite i find that goes grey, mapei and bal ok and I use washboy too

NOT masked it yet, cut plastic sheeting and blue masking tape should be ok., especially theire coving. Although im sure they might repaint...can't depend on a repaint tho, prb ask me to do it lol.

I wonder If i use ordinary black Silicon around the frame of the fire and joins, will it not melt with the heat..?

was it anthracite Wylie,I find that certain brands goes light grey, if I need to use a black grout I use charcoal
doug

Yep anthracite it went light grey,as i understand it in plastering the wetter the cement mix the whiter it becomes so anthracite is crap then
what make is your charcoal

I keep getting jobs with black grout, hate the bleedin' stuff, have to mask off everything.:mad2: :furious3:Ive only ever used BAL as the customers have already got it and my heart sinks when I see the bags!
Will have to try Mapei and see if theres any difference.
All good fun.

PCI have just started to stock this in the UK i have been using it for a while its the best thing since sliced bread imo only used it in black and anthracite you don't get the problem of the efferescence that you get with the rest 😛ete
PCI Aquafug®

thank goodness for that i thought it might just be me🙂lol🙂 i can't stand the blooming stuff it takes so long to clean up especially of your tools and hands:mad2:

I was going to attempt the floor before I do anything else so at least getting black grout over the walls won't be ain issue.

There will be nothing else in the room that needs to be protected.

If you have a light color on the walls it can be harder to get the wall grout off the floor grout 😛ete

The customer has chosen black tiles for the floor, which he has expressed a preference to use black grout with.

The walls are to be grouted white. I'm intending to do the floor first. This will enable me to tile the walls after the impending black grout nightmare that I am expecting.

Sheet the floor up:whatchutalkingabout

Why would I want to sheet the floor up? It's the floor that needs the black grout????

Unless you're talking after I've tiled it to protect the tiled floor whilst I do the walls

Plan of action:

Prep whole area
Tile floor
Grout floor with black grout
Clean up
Tile walls
Grout walls with white grout

Bal mate, although I like the other grouts in Ultra range

Horrible, horrible, horrible stuff, stains you skin for a week, nightmare to wash off, the mapai stuff is the worst its like grouting with tar. Advised it once because I had half a bag spare, should have put it in the bin instead.

Which mapei stuff. Ultracolor Plus is fine, goes down really well IMO.

Hehe. I am an old woman who likes to get her hands dirty. I have just installed a built in oven and thought it would be nice to have a black tile surround. I've stuck on the tiles and didn't want to have white grout so thought I would google -black grout. Hence I am here. I really like the hint on using a black marker pen. Many thanks.

Oldgrout.

This stuff is not cheap, I got it for just over £20 including the GT1, which you may not need. IIRC the grout itself is around the £10 mark.

But it works well. It will get everywhere but I have used it on the floor with no wall tiles up yet. It has now been put away, and I'll be using white grout on the walls.
