Waterproof/resistant Plasterboard, Really?

Hi guys,

went to look at the job at the weekend, all walls were plasterboarded (plasterboard has a blue front) in bathroom so I recommended the customer have the shower area tanked which they had no problem with until the builder told them that the plasterboard is a special water-resistant PLASTERBOARD. I have never come across this before, has anyone else? got no pictures I'm afraid but I assure you its nots a tile backer board, definetly plasterboard of some sort.

No, it's moisture resistant and that's it...certainly not waterproof.

Better than standard plasterboard but i'd still tank it in wet areas

tank it IMO. plasterboard, even water resistant plasterboard wont tolerate long term exposure to water from a leaky Silicon joint or a cracked grout line.
