I use washboy for wall and floors, one sponge for walls and one for floors never have a problem with spilling...... as for the germans yes closures in middle of windows... I used a washboy there about 15 yrs ago the prob over there grouts are very cement based dry very quick you can only do 5mts then you have to wash off, also grout finish must be flush
