Well, I took the plunge today and dished out my cards to a few outlets, Put some in Topps, Tile It All, and a local plumbing merchants who supply bathroom suites, the guy in the plumbing center reckons they are always being asked for tilers so fingers crossed. The thing i can't understand is why Topps put my cards straight onto the front counter (not that i'm complaining) as i thought they would have been put out of sight for a short time at least, but there ya go.
Anyway lets hope the phone starts ringing and good luck to me is what i say lol:icon7:

Thanks Lads, the more i think about it i'm kinda worried about the phone ringing (in a strange kinda way) TBH, I've put off for a few weeks putting cards out but i'm off work for 2 weeks and thought what the hell i've gotta do it at sometime, so i will be taking these 2 weeks to get a few things in order with regards to the buisness side of things and hopefully be out of my present hell hole job ASAP. Thanks Again.

I Was In That Frame Of Mind After I Served My Time With Company And Was Sick And Tired Of Working For Them For A Pittance So Took The Plunge In 96 And Went On My Own , Dont Get Me Wrong Was Hard At First But Never Looked Back . Best Of Luck Mate.

Good luck Paul,my cards are just being printed as we speak so should be taking them round all the stores soon, been speaking to the staff at all the places building up a repor and they say they should be able to put work my way.
I'm going for it full bore, stopped doing my other job now so I'm living the dream:wink_smile:

If you don't mind me asking who's doing your cards.

I got mine done at VistaPrint, designed them myself and just got them to print them, got the glossy finish aswell.

Yeah that's where i got mine done, unfortunatley my first lot were crap i up loaded a slightly blurry picture of my logo not knowing they would print what they could see ,i thought they would have used their initiative and printed it in focus. £60 quid well and truly down the drain:sad_smile:

Yeah thats what i thought i was tempted not to use them again, but i have to say i was getting e mails off them offering 250 cards for something like £1.20 so ended up getting some at really good prices. They are definately better than your local high street printers for price.

A really good mate is doing 250 for free mate, not what you know its who you know:wink_smile:
Cheers Varley!

Best of luck to you Paul. I am at the same point as you. Just got my cards printed and need to go out and get them in the tiling and plumbing places etc.

I just don't know what to say to them really. Just thought that I would say I am setting up in the area and am looking for somewhere I am going to send my customers and do they have anyone they reccommend to their customers.

What 'chat' did you give them?

Gaz

good luck paul!! but dont sit on your *** and wait for the pnone to ring ,get out their and start chapping doors m8 and keep at it!!

I didn't really have to give them much in the way of chat TBH, as soon as i told them i was a tiler they kinda knew what i wanted, But all i did was, i went into the shop and asked to speak to their manager he wasn't there so they asked me if they could help, so basically all i said was that i was a tiler and was wondering how i go about getting trade discounts and how i go about putting my cards into the shop.
The rest basically fell into place as they were really helpful and friendly, I wouldn't worry too much about selling yourself to the shop although you do need to come across as a decent guy, remember you are bringing them custom as well as them giving you custom, after that i kept popping back in the shop just for a look around and while i was there i had a quick natter with whoever was serving people and Bobs your uncle as they say. Don't worry about it they will take your cards and give them out .Hope it all goes well for you. Paul

Do you mean posting flyers.

Paul i have a mate who is a window cleaner different trade i know but he posted hundreds of flyers and he set up his buisness on this one bit of marketing alone and has never looked back since.

Had thought of flyers TBH, but some reckon they aint worth the effort, had also thought of putting them on car windscreens outside shopping centers, dunno if thats a good idea or not.😕

Paul, went to a big tile outlet near me today to have a look around and had a chat with the guys at the counter and you're right, they knew what I wanted. They were pretty nice chaps really and this has given me confidence to go and speak to every other place I can think of.

I thought about going round the houses with leaflets too. Thing is it's not like window cleaning or gardening etc as if you get a leaflet through the door about window cleaning you sort of think yeah i'll give them a ring as i can't be bothered to do it myself and it only costs a few quid. Tiling cost a fair bit more and either needs doing or it doesn't.

They reckon you get a 1% reply from flyers but who knows. Might give it a try while I don't have much work.

Best of luck Paul, vistaprint is OK really, but remember to virus scan computer after EVERY contact with them, got a trojan and wiped ALL my data (20Gig of music, photos etc).
It is also worth setting up a separate email address cos you get inundated with offers. free ones that you only pay postage are well worth waiting for. notepads, flyers, postcards even a rubber stamp!

We have had postcards printed from vistaprint to put in shop windows when we get a job we go to the local shop or post office and put a card in for 4 weeks, it cost any thing from 25p aweek up to £1 aweek If we get more than 3 calls from the card we pay for 6 months if we don't get any calls we just let it run out just remember you have to stand out from the rest (buy a Dodge)🙂
