I had a house fire and the tile guy was saying that the only way to tile was to hot mop. I know the house has had termites 3 times costing 25,000 and the entire area where the shower and bathroom was is completely rotted out.

I am a bit apprehensive in that advice and I think the best option is to set guides and cement in the slope at1/4 an inch and considering all the past problems then using more modern sealing methods than hot mop and securing them properly then tiling especially since there is already an existing more moisture problem that this would be way more permanent and using non wood damns etc would eliminate future problems.

I don’t think hot mop is the better option given today’s products and that the contractor may not know what they are talking about.
