Primer

Do you use the same primer make as the adhesive or do you use say tilemaster primer and weber adhesive.
I know manufacturers will say you have to use the same but there selling the stuff......in the real world is primer not just the same with different labels?

Our own brand adhesive is made by palace, and the back of that recommends the Palace tiles primer. But we haven't stocked it until recently (and our adhesive has been available for around 16 years). Instead we have always supplied the BAL Bond SBR and its been fine so far. The chemical make-ups are virtually identical from one SBR to the next so I can't see it as being much of an issue.

Yes primers are pretty much the same although the cheaper brands can be slightly more diluted.

Most of us on here have the experience to know what to use, where and when BUT manufactures want to make as much money as possible so they use scare tactics to make us tow the line ie 'the old 'void guarantee/warranty card ??'

the best answer I can give is, after 30 years in this business covering tiling, substrate prep, plastering and construction, I know what works so I will continue to do what I know, rather than what I'm told.

Ops, modest 😉

I've used PR360 for years with every addy I've used & never had an issue.
I'm on the last of my 360 so once that has finished I will start using my prime plus from TileMaster.

I mix and match apart from pumped screeds where i use bal apd. I use it undiluted on these and it doesn't skin unlike most others. Anyone know why?

Always tilemaster primer as I use tilemaster adhesives 99% of the time. I have 3 bottles of primer on the van that came with some ufh kit, might be pro warm, looks like banana milk shake, I darent use it

Don't you just hate it when manufacturers colour their primers green or blue? Stuff splashes on everything.

So why is it that white primers don't?

Over bought on 5 litre bottles of PR360 at start of year - been using it with everything since. I think its an excellent all round primer.

I use weber PR360for all my tiling and I've even used it when I've done my plastering at home it stops suction far better than pva

I too am a plasterer and tiler.
I have always used pva to prime for plastering does tile primer really work better? I'd be interested to know. Pva on an unpainted scraped artex ceiling can often just skin up where as a primer/sbr May soak in and hold better?

If I plaster on a scraped artex ceiling I use a 3-1 pva so it soaks in, then use another coat when the first one is dry.

I use my tiling primer, normally bal sbr if I'm ever roped into messing around with the pink stuff. Just don't trust pva, although i know chemically, gypsum to gypsum it's ok (if it doesn't skin and if it stays dry)

Just 1 coat?

I'm not a plasterer but when I've done a bin before in my house or for friends I always use weber PR360 which is just fancy sbr bonding

from a supply POV, i dont like cross from supplier to supplier, it goes on i know, i remember years ago, we sold 4 different adhesives, came to a head once when there was a failure, but because fixer had used this from them, that from them we couldn't agree who or what was at fault. to simplify, we now try and supply whatever primer the fixer is taking with adhesive to match.
