Does anyone know if the wash room in a petrol station comes under commercial work, also is it just a straight forward job with regards to grouts and wot not, what i mean is would it be a situation where epoxy grout would be used....Cheers.

With it being a buisness i would say its classed as commercial work, as for grouts a modified one will suffice, i would'nt say the floor is going to be in regular contact with contaminates as petrol forecorts are kept extremely clean for health and safety purposes. hope this helps... dave..

No, epoxy grouting would not be required for this type of job. I would class this as a commercial job.

Who is it upto to define a commercial job from domestic, the thing is i have been told today of a garage where the manager is looking for someone to tile the wash room ,admittedly i don't know if this is a washroom for the general public or just one of those little washrooms that are normally stuck out the back of the shop and solely for staff use (if it makes any difference) Hmmmmm.

I would define domestic as in someones house (private property). Commercial property would be a property that is open to the public.

wont make any difference as long as job is done properly , domestic or commercial its just another tiling job paul mate. good luck!! dave..

dont understand what legallity has to do with it , jobs just the same as any other job , might be wise to advise customer to use some sort of none slip tile on floor, apart from that no probs!!!

public liabilty insurance you should have as standard, never be with out it... you just never know one day you might need it.

Would be advisable to start getting 110v tools though Paul, better for health and safety, a 110v electric shock is just that, A SHOCK, a 240v shock can KILL! Something to remember when upgrading and buying new tools.
----
Remember we tilers are often working with our power tools around buckets of water and such, we are at quite high risks of shock etc through most of our working day, one silly mistake is all it takes

I was talking to h.s.e. about a month back and the 110v tools law on sites etc is going to be changed as you actually get a bigger shock of 110v because it carries i higher ampge
and its the amps that give you the belt he said, so what they are going to introduce god knows,

If they can't figure out whats best for us how the bloody hell are we supposed to know, thanks for that info dh will have to keep an eye on that. Are they gonna subsidise tradesmen who have spent all there money on 110v tools (as advised by hse) to change to 240v (which they told us to avoid)...I think not, could cost tradesmen a bloody fortune this! :icon9:

You might want to consider that a petrol station has highly volatile gasses floating around and that any electrical equipment might just have to be spark proof. Not sure on the legislation front but might be worth checking anyway!!!!!!!!

Right guys, never believe second hand info as this is how i found out about this job, went to the petrol station tonight and it wasn't for the washroom it was for the guys bathroom in his house.(He is the manager of the petrol station).

Anyway, went to his house earlier this evening to check the job out and you would be horrified at the state of it, someone posing as a tiler has well and truley ripped him off, it's a shame i didn't have my cammera with me, watch this space though because if i get the job i will post pics of the mess. TBH I feel really sorry for this guy. But anyway, can some of you head over to the pricing forum to help me price this job up, full details will posted in that section. Cheers.
