Hi I'm new to the forum and I am hoping to start tiling as a living. I am an engineer by trade for the last 28 years and would like a change of direction. I have done a lot of tiling over the years and enjoyed so thought I would try it for a living. I have done a tiling and plastering courses to help finesse but was warned that might struggle to get work unless I did bathroom fitting as well. Any thoughts on this !

Hi bsf1007 and welcome to tilersforums.com!

Hello and welcome...
Some mutli traders do well and some don't...

Same with tilers..it just depends how you market yourself...

you could also ally youself with some bathroom fitters. They give you work you give them wor sort of thing. Doubles your opportunities IMO. I see this with screeders and underfloor heating contractors all the time and it works well.

:welcome:Bsf1007 - and enjoy your time with Tilers Forum.

This is the best job in the World - when you've got work - but some will find it difficult in the present climate - both ecomomic and weather!
Until there is a significant increase in house building you will find that the domestic market will continue to be extremely competitive and I would expect it to be a difficult time to be just starting a tiling career.
Being of the Old school I couldn't comment on the benefits of multi tasking for yourself.
