Apologies if this is a stupid question, but what is the difference between getting a dedicated paddle mixer, and just putting a mixer attachment onto a normal power drill??

Reason I ask is that when I have my first bash at tiling, I was just going to use my normal drill to mix the adhesive. Will this be suitable?

Cheers
Jimbob

Because the dedicated mixer has a gearbox with a slower speed and extra strong motor with plenty of torque, much less strain on the electric motor. Also if you mix to fast you will end up with air in the mix and adhesive like blamange with no strength (will set like an Aero)

I am sure too many people on here have seen their normal drill go up in smoke when they decided to use it for mixing

A dedicated mixer is the way to go. I know some people like to be able to have a drill do the mixing and drilling and even SDS drill with a chisel but i find it much better with one of these type mixers.

I do my mixing by hand as when I used my drill all I could smell was burning clutch.
Will be getting one of these!

I used to use a drill and paddle untill i bought a dedicated mixer. Get yourself one and you won't regret it and you'll tell the difference straight away when you use it.( at least your back will tell you.)

I brought one of these at the start of the year. Similar price to what everyone else is quoting. I paid £98.00 from my local topps. I used to, and still cart around an old corded bosch hammer drill for mixing. But mixing up is far easier, and quicker with a dedicated mixer. Apart from what others have mentioned about the motor being more powerful. Having the double handle helps massively with controlling the paddle, especially at higher speeds.

Wouldn't be without mine now.

i have had a rubi mixer as advertised for about 2 years, got it from tradetiler great mixer in the 'budget' range.

Ive had this mixer for bout three years now, supplied with spare brushes, a must for the pros!

my paddle mixer has just started making strange noises, a bit like when we used to peg cardboard to our bike wheels as kids, so was looking at the rubi....might just get some new brushes instead..

LOL. Tony.. good luck mate..

On another note.. the Evolution mixer is on special at B&Q trade point for 68 quid. 🙂

You must stop it NOW , where is my ABSOLUT vodka :incazzato:. Oh yeh , and chinese do good quality now, not like 10-20 years ago  😛rrr:.
