New at subcontractor job

I will start working as a subcontractor this July (2014).
Do you guys know of any basic online guides on what I need to do, register wise?
Any pointers?

(HMRC site is not simple at all)

Thank you Whitebeam! No accountants for me. I understand a bit about accounting (mother side), it's easy for me to keep track of the year's ins & outs. I just need to know where to register and so on 🙂

Right, we get a UTR when you register for Self-Employed I guess..

Found these 3 links that pretty much summed it up. Thank you all for pointing me in the right direction! Just completed my UTR request, just need to remember to activate my HMRC account so I can submit my taxes online 🙂

Do the HMRC online straight away as you'll need a Gov' Gateway password first and it takes a bit of time for it all to come through. Also when the gateway stuff comes through do it immediately as it has a time limit on it then you have to re-apply.

Once done it's a doddle.
