Forget about the the clips having a lateral impact so to speak only a vertical one and space the tiles as you normally would to allow for sizing Andy.
that's why I struggle t use clips Lee.
I haven't put a spacer in a floor tile for 37 years.....lol

and I was under the impression spacers were an absolute necessity with clips ?

They’re by no means a necessity Andy. You can still grid the floor so to speak when the tiles are clipped and simply use a scraper etc in between the joints to align the tiles as required.
