Took some tiles of a wall, plaster skim behind them on a brick wall, one area has hairline cracks radiating away from an approx 0.5m2 area which sounds hollow to rap with a knuckle, it's an area about 20-30mm from the lip of where the bath will be and i'm a bit concerned about tiling over it...

Need to chase out a bit of wall to recess a waste pipe so will find out exact structue of wall at that point....but....am tiling entire wall...is it worth covering in pva'd ply for safety sake??

using repid set flexi bal adesive with 20 x 25 mm ceramic tiles, wall is interior in large victorian townhouse..

It sounds like the plaster/bonding has come loose..it needs replacing before tiling.......i would'nt use ply........you could chop out the affected area and dot & dab some plaster board on and make good that way...it will be quicker this way........

As above, the only prob that you may encounter is your small area may become the whole wall so warn the customer before you start that you may have to board out the whole wall..Mark.

I always take a pic of any damage may it be bath sink toilet and point them out , dust sheets every where from the moment you walk in the door to the job in hand

Thanks for all your responses....quick q...is this dot an dab basically grind out a sqaure outline, remove internal waste and dot adhesive on a matching size peice of plaster board and fill in the gaps??

understand this is a wild shot in the dark:joker:

Rest of wall feels real solid, sds'd the previous tiles off and it didn't blink (previous DIY'er tiled over paint so prob did me a favour)....fortunate also to be working in a bare room, just done first fix so if i need to get heavy now is the time...thought i was on easy street till i caught this nasty patch.

.

got it in one...use plasterboard adhesive, around £6 for a 20kg bag.

you could also use a bonding coat. Strip the area back to brick then PVA twice and use a coat of bonding coat its only about £5 a bag from most places
