Glass mosaic border

I have recently done a bathroom with a glass mosaic border. The mosaics were thinner than the tiles, so I used a thicker bed of addy, which meant a lot of cleaning up as it came through the mesh backing. I have since been told that there is a backer board that I could have used to bring the mosaics out to the level of the tiles. Any info on this board and where to get it please.

There are few ways of doing what you want but seeing as you asked about the backer board method you could use thin backer board or even thin tiles but it would depend on how much depth you need to build up. ??
