I used black grout (Ultracolour) today for the 1st time.... NEVER AGAIN!!! I will do whatever it takes to persuade the customer that black grout is pure evil, and should NEVER be used!

:mad2:nightmare stuff aint it!:mad2:

new sponges,grout float,washboy sponges required!:mad2:

Yep hideous. It got everywhere. Still got black fingers now, as i kept putting them through my gloves lol!

Showoff! 😛rrr:

I used it yesterday, not got black fingers, i use liquid gloves, and wear latex gloves, use a grout float that i only use with dark greys or black, and just dump the sponges. Not a problem

Used ultracolour plus black (120) 3 times lately and had no probs.
Latex gloves, seperate tools for black and not one bit of efflorescence.
First ever time though it took a good week to clean off bit of a pain as missus took us for a romantic 40th birthday meal!!

I'll have to check on Monday for efflorescence, but no signs this evening.
Yeah the cleandown was a bit of a mare. Have another go at polishing the tiles up on Monday, as the job's not finished yet.

Yes black can see pretty messy its even a nightmare when you get a burst bag of the stuff all over your uniform and carpet!!!

Where do you get your PCI gear Pete? I really wanted to try nanolite, but there's nowhere round here that stocks any PCI stuff!?!

I had a tradesman throw a bag of grout on his shoulder and....yes you guessed it. POP. I was cleaning it up for days!

Black grout is a nightmare!

I used that microcolour stuff a few weeks back and it wasn't too bad to wash off.
Sets real fast too.

The sponge was a throw away when i was done, but that is a given.
But this stuff came off my hands no bother.

Years ago we used to add those powder dyes to the grout and it would stain the hands for days.

I get the tongue in cheek (I think)...but when its suitable, or spec'd? Follow Poynton Phil's advice, allow time and work to a system. Yes it usually needs a further clean away on porcelain once set.
On certain tiles or stone strong coloured grouts can penetrate and mark - so its a good idea to test if unsure.

Just used BAL Charcoal Superflex on a riven slate floor today - not too bad actually, just remember it will need an extra couple of washes but it was sealed properly and washed off a treat

:yikes:hate black grout i agree it is evil, i carry 3 grouters to save any mishaps, you certainly cant use the float used for black on anything but black again!

haha! Yeah it was half tongue in cheek, half serious. If i can persuade a customer that a different colour would be better, i'll not be complaining lol! I'm a bit paranoid about over washing it, in case i end up with patchy grout. Gave it a polish up today, and so far it's looking good (which i grudgingly admitted to the customer, as i originally thought there would be too much black, with matt black tiles on walls and floor)!
