G"day, I've got a guy that wants his bathroom done, ditra throughout, even on the ceiling,I personally don't like the idea of setting tile on ditra on the ceiling.Keeping in mind the gravity theory. What do you guys think.I'd paint on some Maplastic HDG,but all the hype on ditra has this guy wanting it on the ceiling, any thoughts? Thanks.

Agree, seems odd. Would look like some kind of mental asylum room.

A lot of shower area's in usa/canada do have the ceilings tiles......

I would check with schluter.com ( usa site) to see if they recommend using it this way.........It will be very messy to try and use it that way.....try and talk the customer into just using Hardie panel or another backer type board.....

hi sounds like a waste of time but if he insists get him to sign a disclaimer stating that you strongly advised him against it and will take no responsibility if it goes wrong hope this helps.

Thanks guys,my sentiments exactly, the shower is a walk in with six showerheads,I've done a few high-end bathrooms similar but have always painted on rubber membrane,it's the ditra that bothers me and your right ,when the ceiling is tiled it looks and feels like your in a box but I don't sign the cheques,I just cash them,I appreciate the feedback.

Hello from Germany to Vancouver, my cousin lives there.
Schlueter´s Ditra is for tanking and/or decoupling, so what is the sense having it installed to the ceiling? As Dave said ask Schlueter for the purpose and I think, as decoupling doesn´t make sense, taking Schlueters matting type Kerdi for tanking also the ceiling would be the better choice. Martin

Yep, Kerdi is the better option.
The last time I did a ceiling, they wanted chocolate grout. You soon find that chocolate grout, doesn't taste like chocolate.

Thanks again guy's,after a bit of discussion we decided on the Kerdi mat,I still think it's unnecessary but am more comfortable with Kerdi than Ditra for the purpose of the ceiling. As for the flavor of grout,I've personally never tasted any,but you can bet your sweet *** it'll be my helper tasting the ceiling grout not me,I've earned that right, have a good one lad's.
