If you are going to Tile it anyway you could locate battens by using small posidrive screw driver to check to see if there are suffient studs there . Once you have found first stud you should then be able to find others at 400 mm spacings . Unless as stated above it is dot and dabbed .

Gypsum plaster coat finish applied to the plasterboard which then has a maximum weight limit of 23kgs per mtr
