As many of you know I am making the jump from suit and tie to spacers and float, I have everything ready now just need to sign the van. I had a meeting with one of the biggest property developers in the UK on Monday regarding a 300 plus site around the corner from my house, luckily for me my best friend will be the site manager. My biggest worry was as I had not been on a training course I may lack certain time saving techniques and est imating/setting out tricks.
The meeting went very well and on my way home I saw a tiler sat in his van on the roadside, I thought sod it and tapped on his window to ask some advice, I expected to get a big :furious3: but I was there nearly an hour talking away, what a guy. Then he said could I help him out on Saturday on a small site, so my first job completed today and he spent ages teaching me the things he learnt on his course, it was like winning the lottery, sorry I had to tell someone.:hurray:

Thanks mate, I can't believe it, I wasn't expecting it to happen like this or this quick or for a local tiler to be so helpful, I think it is because he is one of the grey pound so not working much longer but what a guy and what valuable advice I am getting, back with him tomorrow for a bathroom. Thanks again Dave.

no probs jimbob.. you have a foot in the door now , so kick it open and walk in..best of luck to mate......

that the way it goes we all have a bit of luck sometimes mind you i would prefer the get 6 numbers

Good luck pal, probably wont see you on forum again coz you not going to have much spare time looking at that luuvverly contract. Nice one!:8:

Your've got bottle thats all I can say, I know guys in the trade for donkeys years and hav'nt done what you've done in such a short space time, "Respect" you deserve it.

Thanks guys your comments are humbling. My one concern is that I bite of more than I can chew, if this happens and it may have happened to some of you in the past what sort of arrangements can I come to with this other tiler, do I split the contract, sub him out. My problem is that my contacts far out weigh my experience, any suggestions as always greatly appreciated.

Just speak to him about the job, and see what he wants. He trusted you on his jobs nows the time to repay the favour.

Well done mate. Sounds like your dopped on there. Very very good start 🙂

You could even turn this around and just become a bit of a contractor and keep your suit on. There are plenty of tilers that can help you out on those 300. 😉

Hi Jimbob, if you go down the route of Sub-contracting, be aware that you need to register with the CIS people at HM Revenue and Customs as a contractor. it can take a few weeks to get set up and get your documentation through. You will also need someway of recording and reporting your deductions.
