DIYer here. I am tiling a shower and has been going pretty well, but I have an issue I have run in to. I have been aiming for 1/8 in grout lines but due to slight variability have ended up with most being 1/8 inch as I hoped, but some variance down to 1/16th and some up to 3/16. Since 1/8in is the cutoff for using sanded vs non sanded grout, I am not sure which to use/what to do? My thought has been to use a little non sanded grout and work it in to the smaller lines, then immediately (before it dries) go over the top of it and over all the other grout lines that are 1/8in or larger with the sanded grout. I figure that way grout gets worked into the smaller areas but sanded grout will be filling all the rest. I don't know if this is reasonable or the best option, so any advice here would be helpful. Thanks!

Do you have a couple of pictures to show us?

Attached... I also realized as I was taking this picture that I have at least 1 line that is even less than 1/16 (included in picture of niche in lower corner of niche). Pictures all inserted with a 90 degree rotation. Thanks!

Don't mix your grouts fella, they'll just end up going "patchy" there are plenty of grouts that allow you to go 1or 2mm upto 20mm with the same bag
Bal, or mapei both make grouts for your job 👍🏻

Thank you! I have only ever used/read about sanded vs unsanded and did not realize Mapei would work for all my grout lines. That makes this MUCH easier! I appreciate the advice.

Phone your grout manufacturers, American grouts are different to uk ones. But as above, never mix grouts.
On the niche , if you trimmed the mitre it would gave brought that joint back in line. And if the tiles are sizey , go for a wider joint to accommodate sizing
