My hb viva, I remembered today, didn't have anti freeze in (and didn't know anything about cars) When it froze a friend showed me how to turn the engine ower slowly with the starting handle and introduce anti freeze in thru the rad! Saved the engine. Sorry but give me a modern car anyday

It does here john..

I disagree mate..i loved them and always wanted one...:drool5:

but a lot better motors out now,,
oh i loved the car dave it was and still is my favourite car it was just the intake scoops on the wheel arches and the overly square wheel arches that took away the look of the old RS2000 which always had people asking what model it was, mind you him having a rally company race tune the engine was a good idea.

but I will admit... this is a girly car

oh dear, gonna have to raid my mum's photies and get the scanner out, sure I've still got photies of my Capri 2.0S:yikes:

test drove an old capri once, didn't have a hand brake, the owner said, 'it's ok you don't need it'!!!!

not a centurion tank then yomps:lol::lol:

I was a Royal Marine we didn't have that luxury.........that's what boots were for

Talking of Centurion Tanks though, I was once put in one that was used as a moving target for anti-tank training and had a few practice missiles hurled at me. Fortunately it have an extra 20 tons of armour and did 15 gallons of fuel to one mile :yikes:

Photo of 'Muvver' in brothers first car if you can call it that!! The other is one that my Father built from scratch, chassis, bodywork etc, even had silver rivets in the steering wheel and for the name plate, built for a client.

So who can identify the cars in the background??

A bubble car as we called them, the other one looks a bit an MG but I reckon I'm wrong

Bubble car correct TROJAN. The yellow one was called a Guy's Special, named after the son of the customer that commisioned it was a one off custom car so to speak. My father made this around 1958, it was featured in Classic Car mag a few years back and i believe it is still around inthe Brighton area.

The other cars are the ones in the background of the bubble car.....

Went to a vintage car rally tonight and you know the years are rolling by when your first car is on display. Not THE actual car obviously because my Yellow Vauxhall Hb Viva, before it expired had so many rust spots it looked like an over ripe banana!!

My first car was a white hb viva on a d plate, rear suspension went big time, second car was also a hb on an f plate...28yrs ago....wow..

Devonmark - reminds me of the 1976 Johnny Cash song 'One piece at a time'.
Is that how you got it out of Vauxhall?

John.

"and it didn't cost me a dime, you'll sure recognise me when I come through your town!"

But mine was Purple with a square steering wheel.........and a knackered CV joint & suspension

I had one of these as my first car. I too got a square steering wheel, knackered CV and Suspension - mine was mustardy orange excluding the rusty bits. £285 (7 weeks wages at the time)
