Hi there

Been asked by a client to look at a villa project in Italy. They can get hold of Mapei products very easily.

The tiles they have chosen for the patio are a light grey with some very light green shades and a terra cotta tile for the interior kitchen.

I've knocked worked with Mapei products before and thus am asking if anyone ca help a with grout shading question.

I thought the lightest grey would go well with the patio and a slight shade darker for the kitchen area.

I know they have 5 shades of grey but which is darker Manhattan (110) or Silver grey (111)

They chart I have down loaded gives the impression that Manhattan is the lighter colour being the first shade on the chart but Silver grey on closer inspection looks the lighter of the too.

Or is it a case that once the sun is suing down on the balcony or interior kitchen it will be virtually impossible to differentiate?

Can anyone please confirm this 100%

Many Thanks

To answer your question.....Manhattan is darker than silver grey. You will notice the difference even if in full sunlight. Why not match the inside & outside?

110 should be lighter than 111.

Here's photos I have just taken from my colour chart.

There is very little difference if any.

Hi Stef, thank you for taking the time to reply back. Yes thats the colour chart I have seen... but I have seen the actual samples but it did not make sense since I agree the position of the Manhattan before the Silver Grey would logically mea that Silver grey was the ascending shade compared to the others. But on closer inspection it was the actual Manhattan that was a tiny shade lighter.

I always thought the same Stef until I used both and must say I found that the 110 came out darker (quite noticeably too).

Here are the tile samples that we are planning to fit.

Picture 1 shows the terra cotta slightly aged look of the interior kitchen tiles together with one of the kitchen panels and a wooden shutter which matches half the kitchen area , as seen in picture 4. I thought a shade up from the lightest grey would be good choice. Picture 3 shows the other half of kitchen area,

For the record when I last was at the italian type dealer the sales person thought that the terracotta showroom tiles below were with the silver grey...but this is not for sure.

Picture 2 shows the exterior patio tiles. As you can see they are quite fair and thus I thought the best option would be to go for the lightest grey

Just snapped this from my grout pack in the van (photo taken in the shade) and to me I can see a noticeable difference between them. This does seem to be accentuated when in shade.

Why not mix up some samples as the grout does vary from the grout swatches and charts too in the flesh.
