I wish I hadn't lost all the pictures that I had, going back for years and years. One of my favorites was the shower we tore out, that had tile set with mastic over wallpaper over drywall. Somehow, this thing lasted 15 or more years. UFB!

The company who own the appartments has asked the tiler why he has fixed the tiles in this way (see entry 28) his reply was 'I done it this way as the walls were well out'. I find it hard to believe as the walls were plasterboarded and then skimmed. They are trying to get him to replace about 80 tiles in total at his expense, if this fails then the job is mine. Not really into repairing bodge jobs as this may open a can of worms! In the current climate though we can't be too fussy.

The tiler came recommended through the builder ,the customer purchased the tiles from a very good tile supplier, probably the best in north london who only deal with the best italian factories they only recommend 2-3 tilers ,I dont know if the tiler uses this forum but i hope if he does he is ashamed of what he has produced, it has caused a major headache for the builder as the kitchen will probably have to come out so the floor can be strengthened so I cant see the builder ever using him again .

If I ever see a posting on here again about PVA here are the results of a job where PVA was used so take note.
Also included a nice dot n dab picture where a log burner was going to be installed.
And finally nice pictures that a time served guy with 25 years experience was proud to call his work on a site I was working on.
So remember no PVA no Dot n Dab use a level and no stupid slithers or your pictures may end up here.

Very dodgy Honed Brazillian slate. 10m that had only just been laid......with fastflex onto chipboard. Maintenance company had to rip up slate and chipboard and re-board. Then I re-tiled

Not only did the guy make a right ar55e of it........he scratched it to hell as well.
£800 worth of slate ruined......not to mention the cost of ripping up chip and re-boarding

This is one I we did last fall....too many things wrong with this to remember them all. The bathroom floor tile was set on 1/4" luaun directly over T&G flooring :yikes:...we tore it out with a putty knife (not much bond of thinset there!). The shower pan liner was a total disaster. They used cement board to make the curb, the liner was not installed properly, the cement board on the walls was wicking so much water that it was coming up out of the shower floor, up the wall, and getting into the room behind there.
I think the same guys did the bathroom in the basement, which we are going to redo later this spring. That will provide more photos for this thread. :lol:

I have been going through the snagging list for an apartment i have just got the keys for abroad ,thought i would post a few pictures of the delightful tiling i was given ,so creative a true masterpiece of skill and workmanship and well deserved in this thread , what do you think will it make it into grace's dad's competetion ?

dont know mate its a foreign builder, the bathrooms are truly bad ,lovely devlopement but the finishing is poor just hope they can sort it ,the bathrooms need completely retiling and those ugly shower bases have to be removed and shower trays fitted, i will posts pics when they have finished the snagging in fairness to see if they can do a good standard

Not a major bad one as easily rectified. Did a job last year, wedi wet tray. Noticed that the tray seemed to have a lot of movement, after being installed by plumber : found out he had stuck it down with Silicon.
Got plumber back to lift it, once lifted I noticed that he had also not put enough supporting joists or plywood to support tray.
Photo 1 shows newly laid ply over new joists on left and right hand side shows remnants of Silicon he used to stick down.
Photo 2 shows My bed of adhesive ( keraquick & latex ) prior to fixing tray

Any photos of the Wedi tray after you reinstalled it? We don't see Wedi trays over here but I have used so much of the Wedi panels that I have a real interest in the shower floors. One of my retailers tried to bring them in and get some interest generated, but I think they never sold even the one they brought in as a demo model.

OK mate
got a few in progress, will try and find finished, customer insisted on 5mm grout line.
You may not be able to see, but I polished all my diagonal cuts to give them a slight micro bevel to match the other 3 sides
Also spare cut piece on picture of board was only being used for set out purposes as original tray was too large and had to be cut down. Used it to make sure I got my corner to corner cuts at the correct angle when marking tray

Nice work! I like the look of the larger tiles cut to fit for the shower floors. For the most part, it is never done here and I think I really like the look. I will try it when the opportunity presents itself.

I just remembered this one...the lady that sent me this photo was asking for advice on how to deal with her contractor. She lives in Canada, and because of the advice of her attorney was stuck with dealing with this loser for too long after it became obvious that he didn't know his *** from a hole in the ground.
I have learned that shower pans aren't a common installation technique in the UK, but I think you guys can see that this one is a real POS. :mad2:

And I got into a private PM exchange with this lady (of fourm) because she was asking me how anyone could claim that this pan liner "met industry standards", whatever those might be.
This nitwit continued to try to tell her how good his work was even after the legal fireworks started. I provided her with photos of pans we had installed that are used in a manufacturer's training DVD, and that finally gave her attorney enough leverage to get rid of this guy and get her out of the contract. :mad2:

The white stuff is a fiberglass insulation that recently has come onto the market here in the US. I don't know for how long it has been sold in Canada. It is sold as an "itch-free" insulation.
The copper pipe roughed in a foot off the shower floor is for a "toe tester"...that is part of the plumbing code in Canada...all showers have to have a fitting at foot level so the user can check the water temp with their foot before getting in the shower. I didn't know that until I asked one of the Canadian guys over at JB's forum.

would like to add my own experience of poor workmanship.
When I bought our current house about 5 and a bit years ago I had not started tiling, so after getting 3 quotes I opted for the middle one, a lovely guy advertising as a "SLATE SPECIALIST" :yikes: :ban:
Have a look and see what you think.
he tiled my kitchen and hall floors. Got really nasty when he did not get paid, we ended up getting Trading Standards involved to make him back off.
Last photo for comparison is my Dining room floor, these are the same kind of Multi colour slate ( beleive it or not ) god knows what sealer he used.
Needless to say his tiles will be ripped up and replaced this year, will post pics when done
