Hi All,

with regards to previous post titled unsure i viewed the spray room today and she wants 300x565 tiles putting over tiles in room and shower cubicle, one of the walls is also papered. The tiles stand proud of the skirting and will stand proud of the architrave unless this is taken off and finish with trim but my main concern would be the weight of the tiles and this would definately be a no no with regards to laying over existing tiles, correct.
Advice would be appreciated but i'm off out now till around 8pm so cant respond till then.

Cheers Steve.

p.s. i have posted some pics in bathroom section under spray room.

Thanks Dave ,

you wouldn't fix large format tiles onto tiles due to weight restrictions would you.

Steve.

My advise steve is pull them off and start afresh.....it will leave a better finish around the door frame etc... and then you know it will be right....
Tiling onto tile can be done...but to make sure it is solid start again i say....

The crack around the wet tray could be movement or just poor prep work.. so again I'd rip out and do it properly...your way and not the previous fixers.....good luck..

Thanks Dave,

Haven't been asked to sort the finished room i just noticed it as she was showing me the tiles she wants. I realise that it depends on how well the original tiles are fixed but out of experience what sort of damage to the walls would a light SDS drill do to remove old tiles if they were 100% covered?

Steve.

I have the same opinion as Dave. And only by tiling over your client would be disapointed of the finish. If you start new your client might think about changing electric connections too and about other lights/lamps for supporting the big size tile look. Martin

i just use a hammer and chisel on walls......sds can be a bit drastic...lol lol..

Only thing i can say steve is be prepared to do some repair work to the walls...I have had 3 bathrooms off the trot that i have had to re-new the walls...( plaster board)....but i would rather do this than tile onto tiles if unsure how well they are fixed and also adding extra weight issues as well....
