First time renovating a shower, had a few silly questions.

- is adding one layer of 2x2 on top of the flat 2x4 sufficient outer lip (on the three sides without a curb) for my pans mud beds? Shower is 5x3.5 so 2.5’ from drain at longest point. Do I really need 2x6 perimeter if I don’t plan on affixing my liner to the 2x6 anyway? I plan on securing 2x2 much higher between my framing, roughly 2.5’ from the ground, and running my oversize liner up over those 2x2s for an extremely overkill high pan liner.

Was thinking the 1.5” from the flat 2x4 plus the 1.5” from the 2x2 (for 3” total) would be sufficient for packing mud beds and such?

- I just fill the hole in the concrete slab around the drain with mortar, or is there a reason to keep that space empty and unfilled? (fiberglass shower in here prior) I assume I just cut the pvc waste pipe a bit shorter so that the bottom drain flange is level with concrete slab?

Some background: Deck mud preslope set on top of mortar, oversize oatey liner secured with silicone adhesive, deck mud pan, durock walls set half way into final deck mud pan, double pressure treated 2x4 curb with durock over the wood, waterproofed and overlapped with liner.

Thank you very much in advance for time/guidance.
