Hi everyone,

One of the guys at John Bridge Forum just posted a picture of a niche that he tiled, and it gave me a good idea to use on my next job. I was thinking that we could share some photos of niches and maybe someone will get something that they can use on their job. Here are two to get us started. The first is a ready-made niche sold by Noble Company. The second niche is one that we built in place because of the dimensions of the shower plumbing wall and the amount of stuff that the customer wanted to be able to store.

I've some really nice work by you guys in the UK on this forum, and would enjoy seeing photos of tiled-in niches.

Dave,

That looks pretty cool...is that a splash behind a range? Did the deco tiles come as a set?

A "niche" is a recessed alcove for storing shampoo, soap, can of beer, etc, in the shower.

Oh crap yeah I have one of those to tile in nicely with 15mm limestone very very soon. Ill take some pics guys I swear...

Yeah that was an alcove over an aga, very posh house, very posh client.
Tiles were handmade... Thers over £800 there and there was only that one wall!

Here's a challenging one I had few months ago.....makes me shudder now 🙁

Brindle, Nice work, I like it! My 13 year old daughter with the artistic eye came in and said "WOW!".

Nice work fellas! I always encourage a niche in my showers, they don't always accept, the lazy mugs think it's one more place to have to keep clean. And they take showers?:joker:

Not a shower Niche but I installed two. The first in the wife's dressing room. The second in the main bathroom. I didnt bother in the shower due to concerns of water settlement and space.

Hey those spotlight holes look nicely cut!
Thanks mate
I am actually using your drill bits xexe, had really expensive 1s 4 years ago from USA, left over night one day, and next day I came couldn't find them 🙁
So since then I am purchasing just your drill bits :thumbsup:They last forever for that price

Thats-a-nice-niche !

Do you plan to put a glass shelf in the middle so you can double rack the shampoo bottles
or is that the finished thing.

Something I discovered in my own shower is that the missus soon started filling up the space and took over with mutliple bottles of Pantene VO5 Soap Razors Conditioners Radox Flannels to the extent that I would often elbow off the contents and then be scrabbling round the tray picking up half empty bottles (if my foot was lucky) or full bottles (if my foot was not so lucky) and restacking an overloaded space.

But I think thats the downside to all niches - they get used! And theres never enough room.

Here are a few I've done. Nothing fancy but still a niche.

These all look great. How would I go about constructing something like that? I'm still fairly new to the tiling game.

Cheers - Brendan

this niche I created just in normal stud wall ( wall is 50x50mm so I added 20mm wedi on top of the plaster so my niche will be 70mm deep), it's plasterboard behind glued screwed wedi board, just cut out where you want niche add more noggins if needed, stick thin wedi to back of the plasterboard inside niche, just don't forget to tape corners and joint inside niche, which i didn't done yet, I'll post this niche when ill go back to finish this job

Here is 1 niche that I have done, 1st time I have uploaded pics so bear with me. I used glass mosaics to eliminate the need for trim.

If your showing off with your Niche - I'll show you one of mine !

Glass shelf at 2/3rds hieght - Glass mosaics and porcelain on the wall - customers choice. ! Big bottles on the bottom - small at the top

My one piece of advise to all of you - Always slope the deck of the 'Niche' forward slightly to drain and watch the internal corners - make sure 'no-pooling'
