Despite all my idiotic replies, I do think it's a good idea, there have been a couple of months recently with 3 or 4 entries and that's a bit lame. So long as the rules are followed and I do think prep should be included, then it'll be a change for the good of the competition.

I don't enter.. then i cannot be accused of fixing it..🙂🙂🙂

This is for our members...

Shame really, we'll have to send you a little medal every now and then.. but fair enough, I understand. Just been dancing with the cat.. bless him..

Prep or no prep they will all be fine... we want loads of entries.. loads of votes and most important loads of views.. publicly..🙂

 I better not, he might make me eat his gloves or something... see hands thread if confused..

As said.

I think if you include lots of prep photo's not only will this be educating readers, I think you'll also get a couple more votes compared to not including them. So while the entry requirements are simply 'you did a job that month, here are some photo's of it' still stand. We should find a growing trend of people proving why their entry should be a sure winner. That'll encourage big explanations, lots of before:after shots, a walk-through every now and again too no doubt.

I think it needs to stay quite simple. All can enter, all can vote. We want all sorts of people to get used to adding their jobs. Even if it's a small DIY one, providing effort was considered, even that could win.

I agree, to show peeps who are passing thru how much prep may be required for their tiling...

How do we stop customers taking photos every day when they have had a pro tiler in, then entering it as if they had done it themselves? That might be difficult to police.

This is a great idea.
Some jobs Ive done, especially the steam rooms, havent required any prep, if any its minimal 🙂. Its gonna vary from job to job.
Its also nice to see the stages of the tiling, where they started, going round windows etc.
Right from the start I got into the habit of taking pics through the job.
They can be used for refference in the future.
I think also it would be very interesting to see what the non pro tilers and DIYers etc look for in a finished job and what effects their voting.

Can i enter with repairs jobs? To show people how things can be repaired if or when they go wrong.

What would be the benefit to them, apart from some kneepads or whatever is on offer and some cudos they could not possibly back-up? And the pro-tiler should/could be on here anyhow and would see that someone was playing silly-billy. 🙂

I agree aout getting more exposure with this competition Great Idea and also our sponsers will also benifit

But if you want to keep it simple fine

Eg

Power shower tiled by Joe le public using a good quailty big tile
It gets oted the best and wins Great

Did they mention they used Palace Supergrip onto Emulusioned walls Etc etc

You are making a hugh mistake unless these things are taken into account as Joe the public will ote for the best looking picture

Ha e a good think on this one as i dont want this forum to be rubbished because of a quick gain in interest and numbers

Chris

That sort of example can happen with it right now in the Arms chris. People upload pictures now and not much else.

If they used Palace on Emulsion and mentioned it, then it would be taken into account, if they didn't mention it, and they won, then there's nothing we can / could have done about it. Whether it was in the arms or the main tiling forum.

Well, all that can be avoiced with prep photos. Doesn't have to be step by step instructions, but people can comment, and if one of the pro-tilers on here thinks there is something fishy going on, asks the questions on the submit thread, the participant can or cannot answer, people get an idea, as well as some idea how seriously good tiling should be taken. If someone could not answer certain basic questions in response anyhow it could be treated like the no date stamp, as a disqualification. A bit like Xfactor for tilers..🙂 I think it's a really good idea, a chance to see what good jobs should look like, from start to finish. And it's a good exercise for learning from our own mistakes, having progress photos, I take them all the time, want to look back on stuff and remember, oh yeah, that was /wasn't such a good idea.

The best thing here is to try not to over think it.. It is no different to being here or open forums.. members will vfote on what they like and not just the intricate work that some know that goes into it..

And after all it is just fun.. lets not kill it with loads of rules..

Hi all

I always supported and entered jotm for the fun of it, and to show fellow forum members the standard of work i do on a regular week on week basis.

the prizes and exposure to the public are/would not be an issue to me.

the rules on date stamping, prep etc are valid but start to take away from the simple ethos the comp used to have in the begining and make entering a bit more of a hassle, but I agree they are needed.

most of the regular pro tilers on the forum have won the jotm now, some more than once so opening it up will probably introduce some new blood to the mix.

I hope it works out well.

long live jotm

The reason for date stamping was just to make it fair.. because before hand we did not know when a job was done and members could simply enter jobs done years ago etc... Hence the title JOTM to be completed within said month..

just be careful then After all it is a lot of people Shop window & good luck

its all good and will do the forums no harm and we can all have a bit of fun.*
