Newly qualified tiler looking for advice or work or guidance.

Hi

I am Paul and I am 26. I have worked in all aspects of construction since I was about 18 mainly restoring old farm houses and buildings. I have worked with roof tiles, rendering, and some brickwork as well as extensive interior and exterior decorating and tiling. I recently decided I needed to specialise in a trade and I have completed a tiling course and loved it. I now am confident with tiling and know it is what I want to do long term.

I have tried to call my local firms for some work/more experience but am currently not having any luck.

Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Paul,
As a Tiling business owner my suggestion would be .....Go to www.vistaprint.co.uk and get some cards made up , as a new customer you get 250 business cards and only get charged postage (about £6.00) the cards are free.I get all my business printing off them.
go to all your local Tile centres and ask to put cards in so they can recommend you to their customers . Tell them you will buy your adhesive etc off them and recommend your customers to them also .This way your helping each other with advertising.You could always offer to do a couple of the shops displays so they can see your work too.

Hi Please expain to me about the cscs card as i have been told it is now obsolete?? Do I need to have one and if so how do I get one?

The CIS card is obsolete..( construction industry card) this card was for tax reasons....

The cscs card is a health and saftey card......needed to gain access to most sites and all sites by 2010....... here is the cscs web site and it will explain all..

Hi Paul,welcome to the site,once you get going word of mouth should find you work,"good work begets good work",If I'm ever really hurting for work I just pin my buisness cards in coffee shops,laundrymats,pubs,etc...I've never gone to long without a call,good luck in the trade.
