Hi All,

So i'm looking for some advice on laying travertine DIY. Here is the situation:

  • 38 sqm area
  • Substrate is a 125mm concrete slab freshly laid and is 3 weeks cured
  • The substrate has a suitable fall for water run off
  • Tiles purchase - Linen coloured 12mm Travertine 406x406 bought form Beaumont Tiles

My question is (and im finding it so hard to find an answer).......

1) What adhesive should I use? Ive been recommended Ardex but both Ardex and Beaumont Tiles and a few websites are telling me to use different Ardex product?? X18/X68/X77 etc. Im worried if i used the wrong one then the tile will stain on the surface. Im hearing that travertine is NON-Moisture sensitive?
2) Im assuming waterproofing is an absolute must? Any recommendations? I don't want so complicated waterproofing process. Just something simply and easy to apply.....maybe Ardex WPM130?

Other than that I think i'm pretty clear on everything else like the 1) pre sealer i need 2) Penetrating sealer and Grout.

Cheers and thanks for everyone help!

The main issue is your concrete slab , it’s nowhere near cured enough to tile at that thickness.
1mm per day for the first 40mm and then 2mm per day for the rest and that’s based on internal location .
