Hi all,

We are DIYing our bathroom with a shower over tub. We waterproofed the wall linings, used a rubber upstand for our freestanding bath (sealux) and started tiling (80% done).

I have a couple of issues with the work we have done...

1.We didn’t check tiles for coverage (I failed to convince my husband that this is important). We used 4x12 tiles with leveling systems and 1/4x1/4 trowel. We did do directional trowelling and backbuttered each tile. But I can see some gaps at the tile edges that has got me worried.

2. there are some gaps due to poor cutting of tiles/warped wall around 1/4 to almost 1 inch in places. Husband is adamant silicone will do the trick.

We will be using kerapoxy grout. Is our shower going to be ok?

Silicone will fill any void within reason and do the same job regardless of width, but it’s never going to look pretty at an inch wide?! You need the joint open enough to get a nice bead of silicone forced in, but narrow enough to get a nice clean Finished line.

free bump more than anything and to catch the eye of the professionals, but with buttered tiles and a consistent troweled bed, a can’t see it being an issue.

some photos from further back might help?

Redo those cuts while you have chance. A silicone bead of 4-6mm other the joint is there to keep an expansion joint, you never fill the gap. You silicone so the two join but not inside the join.

Ideally needed waterproofing first. Then tiling.

If you use an epoxy grout you'll prevent water getting behind the tiles.
