just looked at a small floor in a conserventry, and it has chipboard floor, whats best to board it with, ply or backer board

Re: conserventry floor

6mm hardy all day long ! check to see if theres any screws in the chipboard first ! could be a floater .

Re: conserventry floor

the chipboard was screwed dwn, does that matter weather its floating or not if i use ply,

Re: conserventry floor

if it's screwed down then it's not floating so as the above replies say, 6mm hardie boards laid with spf addy and screwed every 2/300mm

whats so bad with a floating floor then, all my work is new extenstions (screed), as im starting out, im still learning bout things.

floating floors are just chip board placed onto insulation with know fixings, they bounce alot and are a recipe for disaster, i know some guys on here have tiled them by overboarding with 18mm ply and backer boards, still risky i.m.o.

To be honest I've always just gone over with ply but never knew any different. Never had any come backs either. Tiled me dads house like that about 3 year ago and there still fixed and with no cracked grout
