I tiled a 250 m2 steel and concrete balcony floor in a seafront pub some 12 years ago now the owner has started to extend a third of the balcony out by about 4 metre's with the intention of putting up a conservatory which will give a floor area of about 100 m2 .He has decided that he wants geometric my concern is where the old and new balcony is joined in my opinion it is bound to crack, and with using geometric how would this look if there was a expansion joint in the pattern,I dont think a uncoupling mat would prevent this and the only other alternative would be to have a movement joint profile but what I decide on I think it might look odd with the pattern, any suggestion's would be much appreciated.
I will be using the matting anyway in general.

Have been to look at the progress and the extended part is going to be in timber,I know that ditra will not stop this I will be using the ditra over the whole floor and were it join's will be using a movement profile. The job will be porc's and geometric just to the bar area which is great news as I thought the whole area was geometric.

I'd certainly want to be giving the structure a settlement period

This will not happen Charlie 1,I have worked for this for company for 14 years now and nothing is done by the book,he wants results as time is money.I will make a point that I am not keen on concrete to wood, did ask the brickie about block and beam but he said the wall's are set out for wood floor,if I refuse then he will get some one else, this is not the sort of company that would kick up a fuss if something goes wrong,so if he wants me to start straight away then so be it.
