Advice on tiling a bathroom

H

HelpDIY

Hi forum, by way of introduction, I am a few hours old newbie needs your advice.

Our bathroom has brick walls and wood floor. We are going to replace the old units and put on new tiles. We would like your advice on how best and what best materials to use for 1) the walls of the shower area and the joint between the walls and the shower tray 2) what need to be put down on the wood floor before underfloor heating and tiles can be put on.
The dialema we have is that our existing tiles are so rigid that our tiler said it would be difficult to remove without having also damaged the surface. Our builders said it would take them 4 days to remove and to make good of the wall and cost £1k. Our tiler said we can have new tiles on old ones. We read in this forum that there may weight issue by tiling on old tile. The new tile is 300mmx 250mm which are twice as big as the old ones. We alos read that we can buy some kind of waterproof membrance to put between the wall and the tray and to put on the wood floor but our tiler said it would look ugly to do this and ply wood is better than waterproof membrance to use. He suggested somekind of waterproof glue . Your help and ideas would be much appreciated.

welcome to the forum, four days to remove???? they are having a laugh get another builder / tiler in for another quote, pm dave for a tiler in your area

:welcome: To the forum :guitarist: Let Dave know where you are so he can recommend someone off the forum, the advice you have been getting so far is poor to say the least.
All the best.

waterproof glue mmmm-sounds like he intends on using p.v.a:ban🙁no no no)
don't see how the waterproof membrane will look ugly as it won't be seen, also the price seems way to high and 4 days to strip a bathroom is just taking the p,not even with a hammer and bolster should it take that long!
