Well if he’s seen the room as it’s ready and knows what tiles then it should be a straight quote I think.
My quotes would only be open/estimates if the customer doesn’t know what tiles they are having at time of quote or when it’s off plan, then I’d quote for the Tiling and then adjust according to tile/Stone and estimate for prep work.

Time's Ran Out

Hi - it’s not capped at 5 days so if it took six would be £1200. From all the comments here I have at least got to cap it off at a total, but also have called a recommendation and got an £800 flat rate based on psqm!
Thanks for taking time to comment

So 7 days would be ...
And 8 days would be...
You can tile on self leveller in 30 minutes now!
Look at a job - give a fixed price - do it!
If you want a job done - get a fixed price - check their work - accept a fixed price - pay on day completed and customer satisfaction.
45 years and I’ve never quoted so much a day so it can be strung out!!

O

One Day

Sounds like a reasonable price to me, but as always - get a few prices and compare. John Ruskin quote:
“It's unwise to pay too much, but it's worse to pay too little. When
you pay too much, you lose a little money - that's all. When you pay
too little, you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you
bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The
common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a
lot - it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well
to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will
have enough to pay for something better.”

Gonna have to agree to disagree with you on this one John, nearly all my work is done on a best and worst day rate guesstimate, never had the time to be stringing a job out to squeeze a few more quid out of it though, but I like not having the pressure of having to fix Xsqm a day or rushing with the prep, oh and you know those can of worms jobs ;)
