hi Andy, were really sorry but were going to have to cancel the tiling due to lack of funds, sorry its short notice....

this was sent to me at 9pm last night, and im ment to be doing the job today, and i quoted the job 2 weeks ago, so its taken them 2 weeks to discover they have a lack of funds...:mad2:

it was only a days work, but im still unable to pull anything forward at such short notice, makes my blood boil, another day off without pay, and worst still i made the mistake of telling the wife who is in the process of compiling a 'to do list' for me......:mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

That sucks man! Luckily I've never had that happen. Never tell the Mrs. Hide out at suppliers all day. Free coffee & cakes all day with a bit of banter on the side lol. My Mrs has a huge to do list!!
Could always tidy the van, sort the books, follow up quotes. There's always something "BUSINESS" related you could do 😉

Andy, get a deposit, even if it's only a small job. It then shows commitment from the customer. They are less likely to pull out of a job when they have already put money up front.

It's a sickener. Have you lost the job completely or has it just got to be moved due to their inability to add a few numbers up?

to be honest john if they rang me today to do the job next week i would tell them to stuff there job where the sun don't shine....

or book it in and cancel it the night before i start....

I always get a deposit. Soon as i start discussing start dates with customer then they get pencilled in the diary.
As JB say's even if its a small cash amount to show willing. Non-refundable of course.

How big was the job? At such short notice i'd be suspicious that you've either been undercut or they're going to have a go themselves.

its only a small floor, they had all the materials there, so my thoughts were the same, there doing themselves or mr handy mans doing it for a pittence and they forgot to let me know till the last min..

this is the problem when its just a small job, most customers are reluctant to give deposits when your not supplying anything....

ffs just had a text off tommorows customer...'hi andy gona afto cancel tommorow mate, plumber off sick and couldn't come out to finnish the bathroom, i'll call u soon as he comes out, thanks luke....

i'm trying to pull a polished porcelain floor forward that i had booked in for next week......who said being self employed was easy.....:mad2:

one of them weeks, this week...

I'm having one of those weeks too Andy! Holiday next week so at least I have that to look forward to :hurray:

managed to pull the floor forward for tomorrow.....thank god......she was talking about hovering and dusting next.....:yikes:

i went there for my honeymoon....hated the place...lol

blooming hot out there, didnt see a cloud for a week, and i got the trots after two days, so watch what you eat, found out when we were leaving half the hotel went down with it...

still have fun...

I feel your pain Andy, so annoying when that happens.
Started a shower room yesterday and wanted to be done in 3 days as I've got jobs waiting.
All walls studded out and when I went to quote the boards weren't on but I checked the studs/noggins and were all bang on.
Got there yesterday and the walls were all over the place. Spreader had done the ceiling so had to cut all the boards out to find shed loads of insulation between studs and board in random places. Best part of a day sorting some other trades ****!
Sadly I'm not doing the plumbing on this one but jesus the guy they've got is dog rough. Not seen him use his pipe bender yet as this clown prefers his knee! All the floor boards are rocking on the notched out pipes. He wants me to tile ALL the floor before he puts a lovely slim line tray in - on a riser kit! Apparently any leaks will do less damage this way:no: and he can get at it to sort it!

All this extra time and effort is being charged but it still winds me right up.
