Trim Cutter search

Hi, Can someone please tell me where else I can get the Plasplugs tile trim cutter? I've searched B&Q, Wickes & Screwfix today but had no luck. I know Machinemart do them but they're closed today (Sunday).

Sorry no idea, why not get a hacksaw and mitrebox instead, much better finish, i find the trim cutters crush the trim.

I got the impression this tool gave a cleaner cut than using a hacksaw and mitre. Actually I found using a hacksaw crushed the trim anyway which is why I'm considering this tool.

to be honest I think trim snips are a waste of money, they won't do chrome etc either.How are you managing to crush trim with a hacksaw? lol, maybe you need one of these:behead:

I have a set of trimmers but much prefer a mitre block, you can do all the internal / external and 3 ways on it where as your limited with the shears.

What size kacksaw you using...is it an industrial one for cutting 50 inch pipes......lol lol lol....:dizzy2:

Just let the saw do the work and it should never crush the trrim....

Nah, just a junior hacksaw. :regular_smile: Just can't seem to get a square cut - which is why I considered the Plasplugs cutter.

The trim cutters are fine , but i find a hacksaw and a mitre box a lot easier....and om metal trims i use a file as well to dress the cut edge smooth..

You could also use a file on plastic trim to tidy mitres up etc...

Those plasplug ones do very flimsy though....if you deffo want a pair of cutters then buy these ones>>>>>> TradeTiler.Ltd Plastic Trims and related tools

you will se a good quality mitrbox and hacksaw there as well....

I can see they're out of stock but look a more solid piece of kit than the Plasplugs plastic ones.

Davey583 What's your view - I know Alan.P doesn't but do you find them easier than a hacksaw?

True, but try getting an internal / external 45 with them, not as easy IMHO

I've got the very same ones, just use them now for sharpening my pencil, and unless I'm doing something wrong I can't get them to mitre round a window unless I put the flat edge of the trim onto the wall and not into the window reveal. Okay if your tiling a table top though!

When they bring a set out that can do compound mitres as well then great....otherwise a useless tool...IMO...

Not with those trim cutters there isn't...an easy way....what would you suggest other than a junior hacksaw and mitre box...?..

That's what I mean - that you'd use a hacksaw for those cuts

nice one...lol..........honestly mankey.....they are fine but i have used a hacksaw and box for years...and a file to dress up any untidy mitres...

Was looking to get one of them trim cutters myself , but reading the advice on here I think I will stick to the mitre block , hacksaw , & file,

I appreciate that Davy but all I'm saying is that imo they're not worth the dosh and they don't do the job as well as mitre box way

Bought 1 myself last year, used it once. been in the garage ever since.

Always keep plenty of spare junior blades though, once i've cut a threshold, they go in the bin, and as Dave says, let the tool do the work..........

Mmm. Bear that in mind! What's wrong with it? Is it the same as the others say, that it won't make all the cuts?

When you say compound, you mean it won't cut in to a 'V' do you?

yes mate thats right but makes a nice cut without having to mess about with files and cleaning up what the hacksaw leaves behind.

After reading the mixed opinions here it looks like it's horses-for-courses eh? It depends not on the cuts you want to make but on whether the tool suits you.

the cutters are ok for quickly cutting plastic trim but no use for mitre cuts...imo....so i use a hacksaw and mitre box for mitres and cutter for straight cuts with plastic trims.
