Where do you stand on Brand names

For almost any given Branded product there are cheaper unbranded products...but how do they compare ?

It doesnt need to be tile related , it could be a well known brand of instant coffee up against a cut price jar ?

Do you stick to a branded name or buy equivalents ?

Just a random thought I had !.

Here is a start , Liquorice allsorts, seen them for £2 a bag...Lidl version 99p.....as good as the original.

Quite often on sites there is some cheap supermarket own branded coffee that's tastes better than a lot of the bigger named brands! For some reason I always buy the expensive stuff when it's my turn!

A lot of supermarkets also do there own labelled versions of Mars/Snickers/Twix etc..... I swear some of them come off the same production line, I can't tell the difference

The other half won't change from Nescafe coffee, me, I do the shopping so I pick Tesco brand with most of the stuff which dos,nt taste any different but there is a Aldi opening round the corner in November so will giving there produce a try and some of there tools if I get my way.

Most of my tools are a branded name though.

I won't buy branded products anymore unless I have no other choice. I much prefer Lidl's own brand of everything, tastes nicer and quality is much better than the big 4's value ranges.

I know Lidl do a version of Bounty and very little difference but I can tell.

Ooops just let on I have a sweet tooth !

Aldi do "titan" bars, packaged like mars bars, taste so much better!

I tend to go for the cheaper stuff as its all coming from the same factory just different packaging. Some cheap stuff tastes like bad tho

I think they taste juch better.

I always buy nescafe original. No other instant compares.

Asdas smart price range is cheap and usually very good. There cornish pasties have more meat content than Ginsters.

I will try those then , I am with you on Nescafe though.

I think Aldi are ace, so much cheaper and the food tastes just as good, but you cannot skimp on:
Heinz Beans,Heinz Ketchup, Jolly Green Giant sweetcorn, and never buy the Aldi version of Cheerios, you may as well eat the box.

A lot of the own brand stuff is actually just the same but in a different packet. I remember many moons ago in a past life, I think it was Youngs fish fingers, were also making for a well known supermarket just in a different pack. The production manager told me they were the same product going in the boxes but the supermarket ones were just cheaper on the shelves.

I've got to be honest I'm a bit of a brand *****. ha
Though just recently I've needed t start to make sure I'm watching my spends a bit more than usual and I've not minded the unbranded food and whatnot I've bought.

Going to give this quitting smoking another try that'll save me a small fortune and I'll hopefully then get back on the heinz. ha

(joke, it's not that bad - don't mind Lidl beans though!_

Arent Cheerios cardboard anyway ?

An ex of mine worked for a company that packaged up fruit and veg for all the major supermarkets. She said to me that Aldi are more strict on their quality of produce than tesco.

Cornflakes has to be Kelloggs but Tescos come a close 2nd.....trust me I was that cornflake kid !

I could believe that. Tesco, sainsbury's asda etc are just really good at marketing and have massive budgets, they don't always sell the best stuff imo.

We've been doing our weekly shop at Aldi for a few months now, I can honestly say I think the quality and taste is far better than some of the brands and supermarkets own stuff. I used to work for Safeway/Sainsburys and all of their own brand products are made by the big boys, just a few subtle ingredient changes here and there. Asda harp on about the fact that they don't match the other big supermarkets, they beat them on price, what they fail to mention is the quality of their fresh product is tragic, the meat especially is very poor quality and also some of it isn't from the UK.

I used to demand Heinz for beans, but I think Branstons and HP beans are the best now, Heinz taste too sugary.

& my proudest recent find is Aldi Bran Flakes, 88p and they taste as good as Kellogs (for about £2 a box)

Noted. As I'm a big bean eater.

Shopped at aldi once... brought a leattuce and openned the fridge next day to find some crazy bug thing inside it. Never again

I stick to branded products when it comes to tools, I just like to be sure of the quality and not chance my arm that an unbranded will let me down. Food shop I'm not a brand snob at all, apart from Hellmans Mayonaisse, (not found an unbranded one that comes near it 🙂 ). Asda's dry cider and Aldi's Taurus cider are nicer than strongbow imo. Aldi's alcafe coffee is stronger and nicer than nescafe.

Only one HP Brown Sauce - nothing on earth comes anywhere near it for taste, completely unique!!!!!
