Sigma tile cutters

Fred

I've been looking at ALL options for a tile cutter for the hardest porcelian tiles. I used my mates Rubi TX900N in december and was very impressed.

But I've been looking at the Sigma range and they seem to be highly rated, but I'm concerned paying out and not being able to cut these porcelian tiles.

Thoughts on Sigma, and if you use them, do they really cut the hardest tiles.

Never had problems

Hav'nt used Sigma for years, I am a Rubi man. But having said that Sigma has a good reputation

I'll back Harry up there, the sigma3B is top notch as a main cutter,63cm cut and mine has never let me down, for the bigger stuff i have the 3D which is 93cm.

Mine is a ART 5B not 5a as i said earlier, 62cm capacity.
8 years old and still going strong.

i got lockable angles but only swing one way. No need to sell yet as this one is going strong.

I have been using the small 450 size or there abouts and i commented before that if i am looking for another cutter then my next will be a sigma.Dont get me wrong it takes a bit of getting used to as the usual way with rubi cutters is to line up and push forward to score but with the sigma its the opposite you pull towards you then snap, which i think is much quicker than rubi or any push rail cutters.

How do some of you get on with the sigma's.

Had a few cataloques through the post, and looked at a few of the models.........but Rubi being a push cutter, and some of the bigger sized sigma's being being pull cutters.

Not sure if I could get used to having a pull cutter.

Never thought i would until i tried, after a day it was natural.

I have 5 sigmas and they are great cutters, when a friend introduced me to one years ago I never thought I would change from rubi, now i will use nothing else, they cut the hardest porcelain like butter, angle cuts, support arms the lot. They are so robust compared to rubi, by that I mean the frame they are built on, very strong and ultra dependable.

have 3 sigmas no probs will cut anything if your worried take a sample of hard porc into shop were you intend to buy and try it on sigma you intend to buy it will impress you:8:

hi great cutters and light weight but i judt prefer to use push cutters.

i do like this one though and its the best allround 1.25cm cutter imo (and its a push too  )

I looked at those vids earlier on utube Ed, great tools, still prefer the pull version.

Used one of them big 125 klick klock cutters on 1200x600 porcelain a while back. Cut 1 inch cuts longways no problem. :drool5:

Always been a Sigma man myself. Used Rubis but feel that the Sigma is the less gimmicky machine. Cut and break all in one motion, very fast clean results and will cut 10mm clean all day long. My large 75cm cutter was £200, 56cm machine £160 and 37cm machine £50, so a cheaper option than the Rubi as well.

Wheel needs changed every 6 months or so, costs £1.50 from a local supplier. Handles will lose accuracy in around 10-15 years, but easily sorted with a replacement handle. In saying that, it's easily sorted in that you just move the tile 1mm from your intended mark and it'll hit the intended spot.

Useful features are the angled rule bar, sprung plates and sprung adjustable bar height so you can have exactly the right pressure on the right tile.
