North East tiling/ Taught Me This.PICS.

Ok guys, noticed a few people wondering wether or not 4 day tiling courses are worth it, well, I went to North East Tiling Training, I had never laid a tile in my life, i have posted a few pics to hopefully prove that the course i attended can and has indeed taught me exactly what to do. The thing some people don't seem to understand is no matter how long or short your course is, you still need practise and real world situations/problems to gain more experience and improve your skills.
The pics below may not be perfect, as you professionals will no doubt find some kind of fault, this is not a problem as constuctive criticism is always welcome but please remember i have never laid a tile in my life and achieved the below pictures with 4 Days Training, ..................................Thanks to Darren at North East Tiling Training.

Thanks Lads, one thing i did find difficult was getting myself organised it's only 3mtr2 and felt i had no space to move around, kept falling over myself. Hope the next ones bigger.

Yeah, pain in the but when you haven't got much room to work, not much you can do about it really though.

Tilings fine m8 but set out is all wrong, should have centered the floor and you wouldnt have the small cuts either side.

Looking through the door while standing in the landing it is all center. Or is that not the correct way of doing it

Rather than starting in the middle with the egde of a tile you should have started with the center of your tile on the center line, this would give you almost 3/4 of a tile each side.

Very true, would have looked better but hey, still great for the first job paul 🙂

Nothing at all wrong with the tiling, you've got that down to a tee, just a little more thought on the setting out and you laughing m8, don't be discouraged :wink_smile:

I am in no way offended it's good that people are willing to help others out, i appreciate all comments good or bad as it all adds to my knoweldge, i have just looked in the galleries to try and get a better picture of what you meant and sure enough you were correct and it does look better, not that i doubted you in the slightest, i'm now in a position to make it look better next time around, which is a good thing.🙂🙂🙂🙂

Just to add, If i was tiling a different floor and laid the center tile the way you guys have suggested and it left odd cuts either side of the room how would you do it, would you just accept the odd cuts either side or would you then move the center tile in order to even up the cuts at either side, hope i explaind that right.

Personally i would try and jig it around to leave good cuts all round, they don't necessarily have to be even cuts and you don't always have to start with a tile or a grout line in the centre of the room.

Cosidering there is a couple of ways of doing it, would you give a cutsomer the choice and try to eplain where cuts were going to be, or would you just lay them the way you thought was best, (just curious).

Doesn't always pay to give a customer too many options, in any trade, half of them 'expect' you to have the answer anyway.
Basically, if some options can generate more money for more work then fine, but if the options generate more work ie: small cuts for the same money, go for the one that suits you and still leaves a good proffessional job.

I agree 100%. Might make you look like you don't know what your doing if you start asking the customer if this would look ok or that would look ok, at the end of the day they are paying for your knowledge and expertise.

Good stuff Paul..... Set out could be slightly better (sorry to keep on about that mate) The idea of a good set out is for your own good as well as pleasing to the eye. If you had set it out as Trev said you would have probably completed the job much quicker. Thats not a criticism by the way mate, it took me a while to realise that the benifits of a good set out was as much to make my life easier as it was to please the customer.

Nice and flat, nice and clean, very well done bud. keep it going and you'll earn loads :wink_smile:

PS: i would have done what Anthony said and charged the extra to put the door stops in (easy money for just 10 mins work)
