Now u mention it I did see fixings through the ply so I'd say it's floor boards !

Just ripped this one up today solid wood flooring some crappy tiles on top of a crap Adhesive like tile ! A nice travertine is going down in a modular pattern pictures uploaded so far

That looks like bitumen glue from old vinyl tiles, how are you gonna prepare that?

Well I havnt much to play with I can't put board down due to floor levels of other rooms so I'm open to sudjestions feeling it its very rough not much shine to it either ...could use a ditra membrane ?...

Remove any loose bits of bitumen, coat it with a slurry coat, let it dry & tile it.
