Hi All

I am thinking of starting a tiling course and becoming a tiler...this would be a complete new start for me as i am 40 years old, a recovering alcoholic and 6 months sober since rehab.
I am a self trained artist that has had a multitude of jobs in the past, but never a skill, basically, i drunk 23 years of my life away.
The advice i need from you guys is, should i do a course?..should i become a tiler?
I have read some of the threads from the forums, saying about the lack of work, so i am stuck between whether to study plumbing (regular job on a firm maybe?)..or tiling (site work and private clients)?
I am a good decorator, so maybe could combine the two?
Most of you are probably thinking "recovering alcoholic + tiling = stress", but i am 40, really good fitness (mentally & physical, play basketball everyday) a hard worker and determined.
Any serious advice or feedback would be really appriciated, as this is a complete start for me.

Many Thanks

Gary

Welcome to the forums Gary,

Congratulations on choosing to be sober.

I chose tiling because I knew it was something that I have always enjoyed and it was a career that I wanted to do for the rest of my working life. It is hard work, mentally and physically stressful, and I would suggest that you need a strong will power and drive to build a business.

If it is something that you really want to do, then go for it! Remember that, currently, people are choosing to improve rather than move so there is plenty of work out there if you're prepared to find and fight for it.

BTW, I was 40 when I decided to become a full time tiler.

Good Luck

Hi gary, I'm with the Capt on this one. Firstly, age has nothing to do with it. I also do tiling because I love it, what ever you chose, make it something you enjoy going to work for.
Good luck mate
John
