First Time tiling - Help me do it right (Polished Porcelain Tiles)

Hi guys,

I was hoping for some advice, as I will be tiling tomorrow for the first time ever and want to do it right.

I will be tiling the walls of my bathroom with 600x300 Jakarta Vanilla Polished Porcelain Tiles, and when Google searching I came across this forum that seemed the most helpful. The adhesive I will be using is Mapei Adisilex P9 and the grout is Mapei Ultracolor in Jazmin colour. I also have a bottle of LTP Grimex for cleaning off a wax I was told the tiles are protected with, and a bottle of LTP MPG Sealer to seal them and make them waterproof. All of those products were recommended by the sales assistants who sold me the tiles at Tile Giant.

From looking at other posts on this forum, those "ingredients" seem to be the right ones, but my question is: In what order do I do everything?

Posts I have seen have suggested two main methods:
- Seal twice, Adhesive, Grout, Clean, Seal
- Adhesive, Clean, Grout, Seal.

The bathroom has been in a state for a week or so now, so I want to start getting the tiles on the wall, and this weekend is the only weekend I'll have free for a while, and the Mrs. is getting annoyed 🙂prrr::lol🙂, so the second option is more alluring to me, and is the one I am hoping is suggested. But I'd rather do it right and have it take longer than risk ruining a good 17m² of tiles, so if the second option seems to be the vote, then that will have to be it.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

make sure when doing your 2nd coat of sealer (after grouting) buff the tiles really well

i would tile, clean off the wax, then seal the tiles then grout..

what substrate are you tiling to..? eg. plaster, plasterboard...etc

Plaster mainly, some painted, we have yet to remove the previous tiles around the shower and such to see what gems the previous owners have left us (they were a huge fan of botch jobs.)

Ist time tiling with 600x300 porcelain! If your wife is annoyed now what will she be like in a month when it's still not finished.
Very good luck.

The lads are raising some good questions here Radio.
What you are doing here for a first time job is gonna be hard work, unless everything is perfect. How flat are the walls? Have you got good enough cutters to cut these tiles??? Have you got any primer for the walls?? I'd also have gone for slow setting adhesive so it's much easier for you to work with.
