Ever payed extra to make sure the job was right?

Just a small post. Have a customer who insists that my labour only price should include making sure the floor is sound for tiling.
Its not a huge problem and because of a decent price to fit the bathroom as well as tile, I didn't push it that much.
But do any of you guys ever have customers who think that a labour only price should include materials outside adhesive and grout?

I'm not quite sure what you mean mate, are you saying that any deflection should be sorted within the tiling price?

Put your foot down now. Sounds like one of those jobs which could easily spiral out of control. A bad vibe is usually present from the start and could get much much worse

18mm wayrock floor, told customer that it would need covered in 6mm marmox. Customer says this should be covered in my labour price
as the tile shop as assured them that the adhesive they have bought is suitable for wayrock floors.

Done a job last year for a guy who "Surveys" work for a housing association and when they price work everything is included and they call it a basket price.

So the price you give is the one he pays as far as he's concerned, next time I'll know better.

I had a customer take a complete micky outta me with prep. Promised me it would be all sorted come payment time. What a battle...promises of work from friends...I was just happy to get my money and get outta there and now have bulletproof T&C's.

My quotes fully detail the work I'm quoting for and I give a price for materials £x plus labour £y = all in price £z and I state that anything not detailed in the above is extra and subject to an agreed additional charge. That way there is no doubt what is included and what isn't.

I take it from your opening post, you have told them that you won't tile directly onto the chipboard. And then they are saying that the adhesive is suitable for direct to floor. So they think you should be supplying a thing else needed!

I always price to supply adhesive and any necessary work to get the floor ready for tiling.

Likewise, a mechanic wouldn't quote to do an oil change on your car and only charge for the labour, he'd charge you for the oil as well!!!
